Hey All!
Super new to scooters but not to two wheeled machines! I ride and race a 2016 R1. Its my off-season now and a few months back i picked up a Piaggio LT50 for FREEEEE!! Guy said it was taking up too much space and couldnt get it started. Just wanted it gone. Scooped it up, tore her down, and figured out she wasnt getting any spark. Changed the CDI and boom, fired right up!
Im looking at getting a 70cc kit and a new carb but since I know nothing about them I joined this forum to figure out what the best route to go it! It already has a Leo Vince pipe on it so just looking to do a few more things! Any and all input is greatly appreciated!

That is the kit I was looking at with a 21mm carb and I already have a Leo Vince performance pipe! Think that will be fine? I know nothing about these things! Will i have to do any other work with those items installed or will it be good to go?

Welcome! Scoots are so much fun! Where do you race? WERA? We needs pics, please! I race in the MRA in Colorado but am moving back to Michigan in Dec so my girl can get her masters. I was debating on doing WERA but we will see. I have a 2016 Yamaha R1.

Those look like a good start. Don't forget jets to tune the carb in. Next will be your CVT. The Multivars are great very tunable Variators. Scooterpartsco has the best prices on Malossi and he's a good guy to deal with. His shipping is very fast to painfully slow, it depends on if he has it in stock. He is also very knowledgable, if you have a question ask him or call. Careful getting belts, its a longer belt to handle the larger wheels. Keep us posted.

Are the CVT and multivars required for my upgrades or is that just to increase performance even more? I'm not looking to drop too much into the scooter. Just want to get it a little peppier to tool around with.

Jrobmsu, welcome to the forum,if your just trying to get the scoot up to speed for a commute or shopping run you need to aim for a cruise speed my commute traffic speed is 25mph and my slightly tuned scoot will cruise at 35mph and hit 45mph with a tail wind, depends what you want? I run at 50cc with a stealth pipe and sports variator rejetted to suit.all else bone stock.

Maybe you just start with the CVT and see where you are.

I always enjoy seeing people that race big bikes on scooters. So many that ride big bikes act like scooters are not to be ridden, but we have and have had multiple motorcycle racers here sharing their scoot experiences. They're more fun and/or practical than they get credit for. Hard to go wrong with a Malossi sport kit. Good reliable street stuff. Not gonna be the fastest scoot around, but it should run well and be durable. I don't follow the Piaggio platform so much, but there is probably an exhaust that will get you more with that kit... like maybe a Yasuni Z or R, but it will cost quite a bit more most likely. Leo Vince pipes have treated me well for mild builds and it doesn't sound like you're looking to wring out every last fraction of horsepower. Carb and CVT tuning will be required. You don't have to replace the variator and clutch and so on, but you will need to swap roller weights (sliders are my favorites because of their durability) to get it operating in the proper RPM range. They usually need stiffer clutch springs for a better launch once you have a pipe, because most pipes rob low end power. Upping clutch engagement RPM and getting the right rollers/sliders in there bypasses the dead zone and gets RPM up to where the power is. As said, you'l also need to tune the carb. That will at least mean you'll need main jets. You may need pilot jets or needles, but I wouldn't order the carb without getting a set of main jets on the way too.

Jrob, Welcome! I have tuned a couple of those piaggios with big wheels. If you don't want a race build and or spend considerably more, then this is what I recommend: -As others have said buy the Malossi Sport for AC Piaggio motor -Buy the Malossi multivar variator (the 7.1 rollers that the variator comes with work fine as does the white torque spring)- a new variator is not absolutely necessary though. -Buy one size stiffer clutch springs than stock. May already have these when they swapped out the pipe. -Buy a new malossi special belt to fit Piaggio motor Scooterpartsco is a good source, should cost you no more than $250 and you get a rock solid scoot with top speed around 55 and good up the hills.
No need to replace the carb. These bigger wheel Piaggio's scoots should come with 17.5 Dellorto (or eq) Check to make sure though and that you don't have a 12. I get no added performance in a piaggio sport build when I swap out the 19mm for the 17.5 carb. If you think you will go racey in the future go with a 21. No need to buy torque convertor or clutch. Your pipe is fine. When they put the new pipe on they probably changed the carb main jet. Check your jet size -should be 72 or 74. If not, when your buying your other stuff, I would buy 70, 72, 74, 76 sizes.
Good Luck!
