The clutch shouldn't make the belt slip. The clutch itself might be slipping. You might want to remove the clutch bell and go over it and the clutch shoes with sandpaper or emery cloth and then clean both with brake cleaner. See if things improve.
If it's slipping too much, stiffer clutch springs will only make it slip more.
If you're seeing black marks from the belt slipping and heating op on the pulleys, then maybe try a stiffer contra spring. 1000-1500.
I had good luck with 4g weights in my stock variator, which is what my Triton came with. If you swap to a stiffer contra spring you may need slightly heavier weights.

My R4 also came with 4g rollers. I put in a nico variator and that came with red clutch springs and 7g,8g, and 9g rollers. After trying different combo's i settled with using the red springs, the vari with my original flat spotted 4g rolls and acceleration from 0-40 has improved and i notice my chinometer stays pegged on 50mph now(last garmin reading was 46.2 when it just hits at the 50 mark). SO I can attest to better top speed as well. And i got a leaky head gasket lol.

Oh and yeah. I also did lightly resurface the friction material too. Just a force of habit with brake shoes n such too. Use a fine sand paper and take off just enough to make the shine disappear. Then spray it off with brake clean or carb clean.
Im kinda satisfied with it now. Havent fooled with the contra spring yet. I did order 5g dr. pulley sliders. Wanna see what the hype is about. Ill tell ya how they work out.

Tiresome, posts like this are tiresome.............. After 5000 miles of operation we can (hopefully) assume that: at some time in your scooter's life it operated correctly? So, what, pray tell, could possibly wear out in a scooter transmission? The belt? Maybe the rollers have flat spots? Maybe the dirt (and belt dust) are causing some binding? So, disassemble the transmission, clean it, inspect for wear, replace anything worn with stock parts, lubricate, and re-assemble. There is nothing to be gained (no matter what BS you have read somewhere) by fooling with stuff you know nothing about on a stock scooter transmission, hooked to a stock engine, that is working correctly. That's right, you can read it here first, there are no $2 mods here (or anywhere else) to give you a 100mph scooter.

My point is this: At some time in it's life this scooter transmission worked correctly, so I am suggesting we go back to that time (which just happens to be "regular maintenance").

Regular maintenance indeed. Before I tried to make mine faster, first thing I did was buy a new belt and order new rollers. Stock clutch was fine. My R4 only had 1500 miles on it when I bought it a few months back.
So slim, It would be a good idea for you to measure your belts width;compare it to a new one and replace if necessary. Stick with the O.E. 4g rollers. These bikes need constant maintenance to get the consistent performance your looking for. just like reveeen suggests.
And if no one has mentioned it yet, every bike is different. Body weight, altitude, mileage, maintenance, abuse, weather, road conditions. Theres just too many variables to say"this works best". You gotta try stuff out. Or keep it stock and enjoy it for what it is.

So how long does a belt last on a Triton R4?? When I got my 2005 Vento Triton R4 - same color as Slims by the way, the scoot had 4800 miles on it with the original belt - a Bando 788-17-28. I bought a brand new belt - also a Bando to replace it. With my caliper, the... new belt measured: .650 in the 4800 mile belt measured .630in Per the R4 repair manual the service life limit is .630 in (see below) Measure your belt - probably a little thin, but they last a LONG time for what they are. Also - I agree with Reveen, if it works good, messing with stock stuff can start more problems than the average tinkerer can handle.
