I was heading to the bank today and got a few blocks from home when cruising along at about 40mph i let off to stop for a train when i heard the most god awful noise, it was like a screaching grind and it kept pace with motor RPM. As i was checking traffic to pull off the road thinking i just lost my top end for sure . i got it safely to the side of the road, i had already killed the ignition. I looked at the only other thing that came to mind that would cause such a bad noise that would stay the same rpm as the motor. Thank all the blessed gods in the f-n universe it is just the variator. I looked though a cover cooling hole and saw that the variator nut had backed out causing the fan to get a little lighter . I ended up pushing Skeedr for a change since i did have my tool pouch with me. It wouldnt have helped much any way, i use an impact to tighten the nut. The reason i figure it came loose was because i didnt make sure the belt was out of the way and wasnt between the variator plates, and i tightened the it onto the belt, so as soon as i moved the scooter and the belt moved the variator started coming loose. I think the only reason it took 30 miles to back out is because i use lock tight on the threads.

That sucks. I hate pushing scoots home. At least it's not mass destruction.

I dont like pushin much either, at leaste the trip home was kinda at a downward slope so i just sat on my scoot and shoved it along with one foot most of the way . Another benefit to owning a light scooter vrs a car or big cycle. Pushing a car or motorcycle is a pain lol. Im thankful that is was only a loose nut. I pictured some bad things that might have happened in there . I thought oh no, i hope my vatiator is still in one piece, then i thought, oh no i hope my output shaft didnt break off at the crank (it is the small one 13mm). You cant help but have all the bad stuff run through your head as you are pushing your scoot home. So yeah, im glad it wasnt mass destruction ;D...Mass destruction is what i want for mt old back tire when i get a new one
