My trunk release is in theignition switch, you turn the key to the left to open it. It uses a cable to do this, and yesterday, the release stopped working. I tried removing the cable , lining, etc. I can’t figure out another way to open it, does anyone know a way to open an r50x trunk without using the cable? Video showing it: youtu.be/oxRGsiyySDo

I can't remember if those are cable operated or solenoid operated. if its solenoid operated your battery could be dead. To do any work on the scooter you do need the seat open. Mines in storage waiting for me to get it put back together so I can't look at a work around right now.

Try pushing down on the seat while unlocking it. If it's a bit stuck, it just might take enough pressure off to open. Otherwise it will be taking the front panel of to see if the cable has come off of the ignition. Or sliding a thin blade between the seat to catch the cable release. Good luck

You might be able to fish a coat hanger wire up thru where the shock mount is located and get lucky and trip the latch.(see picture) If not the cable is routed on the left side(sitting on the scooter) and crosses over in the front to the ignition key.(see picture) If you only had this issue sooner, my R50X is stored for the winter. I could of helped you better with the seat latch. PS: I watched your youtube vid, You're changing the oil that's in the tank under the seat for what reason ?

Push down on the seat to relieve pressure on the latch, and grab the cable from underneath and pull on it. While you pull on the cable, you should be able to lift the seat open.

It fixed itself. It was below freezing, so I guess the cable was frozen. When I tried it the next day, it worked like normal. Thanks for the tips though guys, if this happens again I’ll try those tips next time...
