Hi to all - I have a simple problem. My 150 Gy6 is leaking oil from the head. It only leaks when the engine is running. There is no drip on the pavement where it is parked. I assume that the valve cover is leaking, but I tightened it up, but that seemed to have little or no effect. It is leaking a good bit. Almost burned up the engine before I noticed it. I have to add oil from time to time. The next step it to take off the valve cover, but first -
1. Is there anything else that I should look at besides the valve cover?
2. What should I do about the valve cover gasket. Get another one. I hate to buy a gasket set and use one of them. Use gasket sealer? What else?

Valve cover o rings can be purchased seperately , check breather hose/tube from valve cover too. May want to Temporarily remove plastic cyl shrouds to pinpiont leak. If its lower than cover. But be sure to replace shrouds when done.

Be sure you haven't overfilled your oil.

There is a roundabout passage that is used to provide oil to the cam and followers. The oil travels across the block to a cylinder head stud, travels up to the bottom of the cylinder head around the circumference of the stud, and then into the head where it dribbles out to get splashed around by the moving parts. If the gasket at the base of the cylinder has failed, or the head gasket has failed, you would possibly get oil leakage at the base or the lower edge of the cylinder head. That would drip or drool and get blown around by the airflow inside the shroud and coat everything. It might also drip to the ground when stopped and parked. Only other source of leakage coming to mind is the O-ring cam cover gasket. You can remove them, and 'massage' them a bit to allow them to re-form back to their normal cross section which might help. I have used an 'acid brush' to paint a very thin coating of RTV onto the bottom side of the cam cover after doing a valve adjustment. The thin coat should not squeeze out and be cause for RTV clogging the oil system, so you have to be very 'fruga' in the application, and avoid using so much that it wants to squeeze out.
