The premise is simple, just add an electric motored front hub to your scooter or motorcycle. Power that front hub with the gas engines electrical system. The idea isn't new, it's been around for a while. Though it's something that's been bouncing about in my head for a while. Your save on gas, increase top speed. Theoretically at least. I'd love to experiment/experience playing around with this tech. Anyone else getting the itch to build a hybrid?

Lots of work has been done on this idea. Including by Yamaha and Ohlins. I think the main reason we have not seen a production version yet, is weight. Especially on a motorcycle that weight is in the worse possible place for handling.

BMW has a fully electric scooter that looks awesome. www.bmwmotorcycles.com/en/models/urban_mobility/cevolution.htmlsIt’s just that price tag. That’s easily US$10,000 more than a comparable gas scooter. Better ride the hell out of that thing before you see any savings on gas. But maybe it’s worth it if you get a good feeling doing your part to save the planet. The manufacturers will make hybrids and electric bikes if the market will buy them. I think part of the reason we don’t see them from the big manufacturers is that they don’t sell enough to mass produce. There are lots of hybrid bikes from smaller companies out there.

When that came out BMW fitted traction control as standard. Not even the petrol version had this. It made so much torque it would easily out accelerated the petrol version. One of the funny things about electric vehicles is for licensing the power output is measured over a time range. This ment that you could legally ride one on a provisional licence in Europe. The same as a 125cc scooter. 😁

I'd like to try this out some time, replacing my front wheel with an E-hub. Yes, weight would be added to the front end, but it wouldnt be by much. I really don't think an added 30lbs, to my front end, would change the handling by much.
Oh well, it's something I'll end up playing around with. I never could quit an idea, not till I've mucked about with it. Having a right twist gas throttle, with a left grip electric throttle... Seems like fun to me, I may scrub out, but sure to be sporting a big ole grin
