I've been doing my usual digging online and came across this type of 2 stroke engine: The Franco Morini. Does anybody know what the differences between these engines are? I found a site that gives a few companies that use them, but I was unable to find a schematic diagram or anything so that I could compare with the Minarelli. Chime in guys, inquiring minds wanna know! Thanks in advance.

Less parts availability is the major issue to timing them. Not the best engine design in the world, either.

I see. One of the things I have realised is that when it comes to 2Ts there are so many different possibilities to achieve the same result that it's just super interesting to me. When I just started here I swore that I wouldn't get another 2T, but now I would be hard-pressed to get anything else! Far less hassles than the 4Ts, to be honest. I just saw two scoots on Craigslist going for less than $500. A Derbi Predator and a Peugeot X Race Vivacity. Anybody knows for sure what kind of engines they use? Minarelli? Morini? Others?

You have to STOP this. A few days ago I was looking at buying a bike with a Franco Morini engine in it........ www.morinifrancousa.com/BEFORE you proceed I suggest you check the parts prices. Derbi Predator: Derbi is a subsidiary of Piaggio, but as an autonomous subsidiary, you could find anything in there (ie: cheapest available to do the job/make the most profit). Peugeot: is owned by Honda. 2 stroke stuff is vertical Honda, 4 stroke stuff is GY6, ALL terribly overpriced. Moto Morini and Franco Morini are two separate companies.

The Derbi might have a Morini engine, or Piaggio. It depends on the model year.

That expensive, huh? I figured as much, to be honest. I would probably take the plunge if I was gonna buy a scoot that would become my pride and joy and that I would pet and powder. Heck, I'd probably go liquid cooled too! That's not the case with what I have now or what I plan to buy next. In the immediate future all my scoots will work hard for me for their living. Guaranteed. The Axis currently takes me to work 3 days per week in stop and go traffic up and down pretty steep gradients at times. The next scoot (Hopefully a Vento Zip/Triton, TGB/Peirspeed R50X, or Jonway F-One) will be making fairly long daily treks between Miramar and Sunrise in Broward County, FL. That's about 13 miles one way. Then it will sit for about a year before being ridden again. I bank on buyng a carburetor every year (though I might be lucky to be able to store it well enough to prevent that).
Thanks for the input, guys. Whatever I get will be Minarelli-based.
