DIY Kill-A-Watt gauge.

I picked up a couple multi function gauges for another project. I figured to use the other one to make this.

These are the 100 amp versions.(with external current sensor) They make a 20 amp version with sensor built in.(wired power in(line)/power out(load)

I was hoping it would fit in a single gang box, but I forgot to factor in the current sensor.

I used a double gang outdoors plastic electrical box with cover. Dug out a couple 1/2 cable connector, a piece of extension cord, and male and female 120v plugs.

Wiring is pretty straight forwards. If you wire the 120v in the gauge incorrectly, the (W)Watt, (PF)Power Factor, and (KWh) Kilowatt Hour(used) displays will not read any values.

You will have to cut the "line/load" black wire and pass it thru the current sensor. They make a split version of this sensor so you dont have to cut and splice back together.

I actually have a actual Kill-A-Watt, but it only displays one thing at a time. I like the fact that this shows more things at once.
