Some folks love the sound of a Harley, the baddest 4 stroke sound is a big radial aircraft engine..BUT the finest sound is a well tuned 2 stroke at full song...

I love the sound of so many engines. Many of my favorites are 4Ts.
Some super badass older F1 cars are right up at the top of my list. They're just evil.
Up there with it are the old Honda CBR250RRs. The one's that would rev around 20,000RPM. If I ever see one of these for sale locally, I have to check it out. I don't think my license or it's engine would last long though, because I'd have to hear that sweet sound every time I rode it.
And then I'm a sucker for the old 5.0s. I loved listening to mine, especially with the turbo. Sadly, not much video of it.
Engines are just awesome. I can't imagine a world full of electrics. Sounds like sadness to me.

The Commer TS3 is my favourite sound of all time. The Daihatsu Max had a 360 two cyl 2 stroke engine, I used to borrow my sister in law's one often. Suzuki had some cars with triples in them, one you had to climb in the back, pull down the seat and adjust the triple carbs. Fun to drive.

Nothing like a screaming straight-4. I had thought about getting one of those CBR250RRs as well. Coming from a CBR600F2, ehh, it didn't happen. It would be a nice upgrade from the scoot, now you got me thinking again. My car has a screaming straight-4, but "not quite" the redline of a smaller engine.

2 stroke cars I remember as a kid was the NSU Prinz and the Wartburg, both owned by our local postman.

Engines are just awesome. I can't imagine a world full of electrics. Sounds like sadness to me. In the midst of cutting some stock aluminum sheets this morning with my SawMax, I thought, man, if they made electric cars sound like this, they wouldn't be so boring. This is one of my favorite tools, it sounds wicked. The "car thought" came after I already put the tool away, sorry no personal video. But wood is pretty fun too. (Not my video)......

I think the amount of people that care about what a car sounds like will dwindle as we progress and most will be happy if the car can just be totally silent. Looking at recent auto shows and seeing how prototypes are coming out that are basically just a lounge on wheels with a great built in entertainment system is depressing to me. That way the automated car can tote you around and you can play with your cell phone or use the car's integrated system to get on social media or read emails and so on. Look at the amount of people out there that can't put their cell phones down to drive. Those folks surely won't mind getting rid of the inconvenience of engine noise or having to press on pedals or move a little wheel around.
Stuff like Formula E is where manufacturers seem to want to be, and the racing is decent... but I can't watch it because I just don't care if the race cars don't sound mean. I can't even get anything out of newer F1 because I know what it used to be with the screaming monsters of the past and it sounds lame now in comparison.

Totally agree. Will there come a day when a world-class racer loses against a robotic car, akin to computer beats world-class chess champion? I don't mind the chess thing, but the racing scenario is a bit depressing. Next thing you know we'll be zooming around in totally silent flying saucers, and humans will evolve no ears. I mean, I've never seen an alien with ears! Gone too far, I'm done.

I really miss my local Heartland road track in Topeka Kansas... Great memories there. Afaik the only run dragsters now. I went to a few of those drag races but then they started to cram more people into the stands instead of building more. I still like the sound of the old piston warbirds, V-8's, superchargers, and turbo's howling. My first engine build was a Ford 390 that would turn 9,500rpm. The sound scared people, I loved it. My son has an 86 Starion turbo that I would love to get running again. Unfortunately there isn't anyplace to run something like that safely. I have a 78 F250 with a pile of custom parts to rebuild but I am getting too old even if I get my hands fixed. I should just give up, the world is just too f**ked up.

A lot of the new cars have engine note programs that come out of the speakers now. the sound you hear inside has no relation to the sound the engine makes.I Sad times.
