When I first take off or even from a complete stop my scooter makes a squealing noise but only for a few seconds then it seems to stop. Any ideas what's causing it?

Guessing it's belt slippage. How many miles you have on the belt? You might want to take the CVT cover off to inspect it.

I believe it's close to about 1000 miles or so on it. If the belt is slipping does that mean it is about to break?

The belt is likely not in immediate danger of breaking, but may soon get too heated from slippage, and start do have chunks break off from the inner vee part. If enough break off, the belt will no longer have enough tension to move things and you'll be walking it home or to a shop. If you remove the CVT cover (about 8 bolts) and inspect the belt, look for shiny sides where the belt contacts the variator and rear pulley. If very shiny, the belt may have been slipping. If the belt seems loose on the pulleys it may be worn and in need of replacement. I believe 90GTVert has a video or instructions on site instructing in how to replace the belt. The factory belt is not likely to be of the best quality, and replacing with a Gates or, blammo brain fade, another known brand will be a good move. They work better and last a lot longer at not much increase in cost. BANDO. The name came. Both Gates and Bando are good brands. Not putting down the others, as I don't know most of the other brands, but these two have a good reputation for quality and longevity. BTW, the belt should be under some tension when the CVT is at rest. Not loose and sloppy. tom
