Hello new member here. Just was wondering if anyone else has done upgrades to these clone horizontal engines with unknown miles and have grenaded the crank on one before, it’s the 12mm pin/bearing. I have some experience with these scoots before owning a 06 Yamati Rx8i (same bike pretty much) and installed a Chinese eBay 70 bore on it only to find air leaks due to the horrid gaskets. It ran well on its stock carb, and pipe. Long story short I bought these 2 scooters over 6 years ago, sold the Yamati but left the QJ just sitting out back for 5 years. Now that spring is upon us I’m digging into this bike and am ordering parts. I decided not to cheap out this time and get Stage 6 streetrace 70 bore for it. Now I’m confused on which carb I should run on this bike where the odometer stopped working at 12,000 miles. I’ve already ordered the bore from overseas so I can’t really turn back now. The bike has the stock 50 bore on it and no compression as I bought it from the previous owner who ran the oil tank dry. It does have an old Leo Vince TT pipe on it, but from what I’ve read they are only for looks and for stock bore. I’ve went through the bike after it’s been sitting for so long and was surprised to find the tires still held air and no rot. The gas tank had some rust but have since cleaned it all out and have fresh lines, petcock, filter. Here’s my list of parts already coming Stage 6 streetrace 70 for CPI/China 2-stroke 12mm Polini 12mm needle bearing Yet to buy: Polini CP21 Polini 32-40 pilot jet kit Polini 100-118 mains Top Performance V-force reed cage 101 Octane 21m intake 24m connection 101 Octane Air Filter Power Shorty 44-54mm chrome Yasuni c-21 pipe I’m not going to list the CVT parts now, but plan on using a mixture of Malossi and Stage 6 parts on it. My main goal is to get the bike running now and than go to the trans, my main concern is it all worth it on what I believe to be the stock crank. Major concern is if the crank goes will it destroy the new (kinda expensive bore) I will leave the stock CDI in for not over reviving (do those unrestricted CDI’s actually work?) Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Me personally, I would change the crank and bearings for piece of mind. How much your spending might as well make it strong for the future. The Yasuni C21 will be too much pipe for that kit. You have a sports kit, which you are going to mate to a high end/ race exhaust. What about a stage6 pro rep, or a Yasuni R, or C16.

Your OEM cdi won't protect you from overrev. It will only hinder performance, IF it's a restricted cdi.
Yasuni c21 Is way to hardcore for that setup. It's a race pipe, and that's a street bore. The stage6 prorep or yasuni c16 will be better.
try that TT pipe out. You may like it. It ain't bad from what I've heard.
At 12k, I'd do the crank and bearings. Just cuz. Your asking for problems building a high performance motor off of a 12k mile platform that sat for 5 years after running out of oil.

Thank you aeroxbud benji I figured I’m just going to keep this build here at 49scoot because of the quick responses and quality knowledge. I’ve taken the TT pipe off and it seems the restricter cone has already been removed or I cannot tell because of the carbon deposits As far as an CDI goes I’m going to go with one that’s a name brand (forget the name) but there’s also the blue one on EBay with the Chinese writing on it too, so if either of them are ok I will purchase the one that gets here the quickest, again any help on that matter is appreciated. Kickstarter, throttle/oil cable, various parts won’t be here until Thursday so kinda on hold for a few days.

I have one of those blue CDIs meant for a Dio on my ETon, and its solid, nothing special. It held up when I over revved the motor and never missed at 11k so there's that....

I also think you should try the tt pipe, cause the C21 is way too much pipe for the cast iron streetrace. I also feel the CP21 carb is a bit much, and will only hurt your gas mileage. A stock carb with stock air box will help you keep your sanity when you are trying to tune your setup. A 19mm would be plenty of carb, but I would still go with a stock airbox. Your stock CDI should also be adequate. As others recommended a new crank is recommended, if not you should replace the crank seals if possible. Add a cylinder head temp gauge to your list.
You gonna go premix?

Use the pipe you have, it won’t cost you anything. Swap out the crank and bearings especially with that mileage and running out of oil. OEM CDI is fine they are unrestricted. I don’t see any mention of variator, belt or springs. No need to shop over seas there are some great guys up in Canada, scootertuning.ca and here are some others. www.scootertuning.ca/en/www.treatland.tvwww.dynoscooter.com

Thank you all for your replies! Today I took off the carb on this bike and relized it is in fact a 19mm Chinese “Keikhinkt” (OKO?) carb.. not sure if the man I bought it from was getting ready to bbk it or what but that is what I’ve found out. Is there even a jet kit (pilots/mains) for this thing? As far as the original airbox is concerned it is gone. I removed and threw out a rusty mesh 38mm connection pod filter that was on this carb. So my plans have changed for the moment. I think I’m going to heed everyone’s advice on here and stick with the TT pipe and see how this carb runs on it with a 38mm uni filter and check WOT temps, my research on these carbs is they are very inconsistent and a hit or miss. The streetrace bore will be here soon and I plan on checking the ports to see if they need any chamfering (more than likely),and trying out what I have first. If things do not seem desirable I’m pulling the trigger on all parts listed plus a crank, minus the c21, add stage 6 pro rep. oldgeek I plan on sticking with oil injection and adding a just cap full of “Maxima 2T” at fill ups to the tank, one reason I was interested in the Polini CP for its connections. Went into the CVT pulled the variator and pulled the clutch bell to check the clutch, everything looks stock minus some lighter weights in the variator. Looks like a newer belt replacement in there as well. The contra spring, clutch shoes and springs look shot. Was looking at the stage 6 “torque control” clutch with a stage 6 red contra and lighter weight bell. Does anybody have any suggestions on those? Maybe a better, maybe cheaper option? I did not realize there was a build section here, I apologize to any of the mods, I’m new here please feel free to move, do as you please. Thanks!

If that carb is one with the black top, yeah it is pretty krappy. I HIGHLY recommend a stock style airbox with any carb you use. I believe 101 octane has a stock style box for a reasonable price. The S6 clutch is pretty nice and should work with the stock bell just fine. The red contra spring is not needed, and will just cause excess heat, and a tuning nightmare IMO. A fresh stock spring, or the lightest aftermarket spring will do.

I must say the parts availability and price difference in performance parts especially for the 1e40qmbs has much improved since 6 years ago when I last messed with these. I’m very impressed with this kit compared to the generic bbk’s on eBay, the piston feels much lighter, only minor filing on the ports was needed and the gaskets are much better especially the o-ring head gasket. Still waiting on a few more things to get here. oldgeek I picked up a Motoforco stock airbox just in case, will probably have to dremel the connection but so be it. I tried out scootertuning.ca and they have just as much stuff that you find on the overseas sites like scooter attack, appreciate the references. Still waiting on some more things to get here, can’t wait to do some more work and first start.

I restored the TT pipe since I had it off and it came out pretty good, if I decide I don’t like it I can always sell it for cheap and put the cash towards a new pipe, but this cleanup I’m sure will help with the sale. After: Before: Everything’s in and ready just waiting on the 2-way throttle/oil cable that just cleared customs. That was the thing I did have trouble finding close by and was forced to order China. After sitting 5 years that cable was froze, not worth saving. I bought an off brand NCY throttle tube (for 8 bucks) how low can the Chinese get? An NCY part is ALREADY made in Taiwan, and they clone it!? Haha! Surprisingly it was all nice flush cut machined aluminum. I blead the front disc brake and cleaned it up, tightened the back brake as well

Ran into an issue which maybe is or isn’t. I installed new cables oil/throttle and cannot remember if on the oil pump is the valve open a small amount on closed throttle or against the stop plate? I do not want to heat cycle/break-in the new cylinder with no oil being fed. I will be using a cap-full of oil or so on tanks, but was worried about this situation. Any insight, greatly appreciated!

I don't know exactly how to adjust the oil pump, but I know more oil is better. Maybe error on the side of more oil haha.

benji I just wanna ride! Dang it. Shoulda just went premix, anyway I can always do it in the future. I opened the spring just a hair, with the way this cheap 19mm carb and only foam uni filter running a tad rich at idle shouldn’t be an issue (especially with new bore). Fingers crossed it won’t be a nightmare. I haven’t bought any cvt items as of late because I just want to see how it is now. Maybe a GPS speed run vid in the works.
