I’ve been riding around in a tank top and shorts (helmet and gloves tho) and I really need to knock that off. There is a ride today but I bailed on it since it’s 105 in the shade.

Ouch, that's rough. Glad you're around to tell us about it. yep at the time i had a gsxr 750 as well then after seeing the mess i was in my other half and my mum made me sell it and stay on smaller bikes as with everything that happened to me just doing 50 mph then + what ever speed the range rover was doing hate to think what it may have been like if i was doing higher speed on a bigger bike

Being t-boned it might not have made a difference. If you'd been on a bigger bike/going faster, you'd still have been squashed by the Range Rover all the same...
Glad you made it out alive -- your poor Aprilia though....

Been no Aprilia rally mopeds on the road since 2017. Only 12 on SORN too. Chances of finding one are slim mrchilled85

I got hit from behind at night once. A woman thought I was going to just blow through a stop sign to beat traffic at a stop light about 150/200 feet to my left. So instead of slowing down, she gassed it and slammed into me. In spite of a raised butt rest behind me to support my lower back, my big Silverwing 600 scooter was ejected from beneath me and I bounced off the hood and slid up the windshield of her car to then finally roll off the roof landing near her passenger side rear wheel... in the second lane of a southbound 4 lane highway! (lucky me... the traffic still stopped at the light saw it happen and so easily avoided the scene crawling slowly past in the far left lane)
I thought my hip was broken and the woman thought she killed me. I didn't have to try too hard to put on a really good over the top show of me moaning and writhing in pain. (she deserved to be made to feel awful about what happened) The ER X-rays showed no broken bones, but damn, my ass and lower back was bruised pretty good and hurt like hell for more than a week.
The knuckles on my left hand were bruised from slamming onto the hood of her car as I was forcibly back-flipped off my bike. A full face helmet saved my noggin from multiple impacts, armored jacket saved my back, gloves with knuckle guards saved my hands from worse injury, elbow and knee armor saved injury from impacts and the riding suit pants and jacket also helped prevent possible shredding from sliding across the wipers on her car. (I know this because part of one ended up lying beside me on the road) Military style boots with good ankle support did their job as my feet banged against parts on the bike and her car as I was rudely removed from my ride.
So yeah, no blood and guts or broken bones. Good riding gear works... even if a bit spendy, IT IS WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY! Even the cops made comments about it being good to see me wearing adequate riding gear when seeing those that don't wear it often do not fare nearly as well in accidents.
Oh yes, and I also replaced my helmet. (broke the face shield off, small crack at the edge of the face opening... though I don't remember the hit to the head being particularly severe) A helmet with a crack in it (however minor it may seem) should be considered worthless as the structural integrity and its usefulness as a protection is absolutely compromised.
My bike? Well it got a bent rear wheel, broken rear shock, busted tail light assembly, drive-line case was bent along with the typical scratched, cracked and broken body plastics and scraped handlebar ends and mirrors, scraped and bent brake levers. Then it was a garage queen for 3 1/2 years before I fixed it.

Figured id post here cause I actually found the pictures again. This was my first big crash, no lowsiding at 10mph or sliding in grass. I was riding with a passenger at a stop light. We sat there for maybe 5 minutes. It turns green, and right as i start getting on the gas, i see a cop car meet us at the light out of the corner of my eye. I started to pull away, and i remember just a huge force hitting the back of the scooter and literally pushing it out from under me. I flipped backwards off and sideways, landing on my head. My helmet has a chinbar that sticks pretty far out, and as my head hit the ground with my full weight coming down on it, the chin dug into my chest as my neck bent and kept my head from going further. Im convinced had i not had that helmet on, or the chin bar was perfectly fitted to my head, id be dead from the headstand. My passenger, no helmet, flew off the back of the bike, onto the hood of the car, and flew maybe 10 feet out from where I was. His leg was hanging off the side where the car hit at an angle, so he fractured his leg as he got thrown off. The bike im guessing did a backflip, and came slamming down on the front tire 20 feet out into the intersection. I remember seeing the cop instantly flip his lights on as i flew off the scooter. I dont get along too good with law enforcement, but that man was an absolute bless. I had a chest that hurt pretty bad, my leg kinda hurt from getting hit by the seat, my head didn't hurt though. Even when hitting the ground. Passenger was 100% fine except the leg. We both only had on thick winter jackets, and sweats. I had not one scratch. The guy was speeding drunk, about 45, saw the cop ahead in his lane, tried to swerve around him and didnt see us i guess. Of course one year later hes probably out of jail. I will never ride without a helmet (i know i need to get a new one), and im on 100% alertness. In any situation, im looking around at everyone, anticipating what they may do, and how i need to react. I get really jittery sitting at stop lights now unless theres a car behind me and i have a clear escape path. WEAR A DAMN HELMET!! Id be dead or a vegetable if not for the $20 lid on my head. Anything is better than nothing. Yes, the bike was still running when I got to it. Started back up and we rode home on the sidewalk. Ran for another 4 months with a broken off exhaust and no air filter. Traded it fo a guy whos using it as a donor for his Zuma, he got it running again. Yamaha quality man 😂
