Hi, new here, I am in the UK, I have a Yamaha CW50 BWS, the one with the upright cylinder, minarelli engine I think, 2nd generation and lost decals on the front, I used it as a paddock bike a good few years ago and took it to Le Mans as a camp site bike again a few years ago, I thought I would get it going to use for local trips and as a backup in my camper, I have fitted a new battery, un-seized the front brake master cylinder and tried to start it, nothing, removed the airbox and sprayed brake cleaner and it ran up fine if a bit smokey, stripped the carb expecting to find corrosion etc. but instead found it full of red two stroke oil, I mean full! now I seem to remember it was smoking a lot last time I ran it,
question is do I drain the oil tank and plug the line, then run it on premix or do I try to fix the problem? the oil tank pipe runs down the front of the engine past the exhaust flange,
If I go the premix route what ratio should I use? how much gas does the tank hold?
I am not going racing and will only use it for occasional local runs plus shopping trips when away in the camper, and hope to take it to SPA in a few weeks as a paddock bike,

Welcome to the forum. I had a BWS next gen. My son has it now. Good scooter. You will probably find that as the oil tank sits so high. Over time gravity has let the oil run down into the carb.I You can take the oil pump off, and turn the drive wheel in a drill on reverse, just to make sure it's still working ok.

Are these known for over oiling? I am quite sure the pump is working as it was smoking last time I used it, maybe I will reassemble it now I have cleaned the carb and see how it runs,
none of the lights work with just the ign. on, does it need to be running for them to work? all that works are the brake lights and indicators,
are there any fuses apart from the main battery fuse?

The lights won't work unless the bike is running. I think there is just the main fuse. I Our BWS, and my slider were both left for a couple of years of more and never liked the carb like you described
