I did some fiddling with the scoot today. Over the past few days I noticed that there wasn't enough smoke coming from the exhaust. On Thursday last week I was certain the engine was running a bit rougher than the previous days. So today, I armed myself with a can of carb cleaner, a bottle of Shell 2T oil, a bottle of some no-name degreaser, and a Good-Year tool set.
I disassembled the carb and found a slight blockage in the pilot jet, and a blockage in the oil gallery! Both were dealt with, even though the oil gallery took some effort to sort out. (I'm supposing this would also explain the oil leaks that I had been experiencing but couldn't find).
I then emptied my oil bottle of the TCW3 stuff that was in there, cleaned it out with the degreaser, then washed it thoroughly. That was set aside to dry while I tended to other matters. I then reinstalled it and filled her with proper 2T stuff. (Shell 2T is actually clear and smells nothing like the blue Havoline I had always used)
I took the oportunity to remove the intake manifold and have a closer look at the cracks. The cracks didn't go all the way through, just on the outer surface from what I can see.
I then had a look at the reed valves and they look excellent.
I took a look at the fuel enricher. I am almost 100% sure that it's busted. The fact that the plunger came off in my hand should be a good indicator, right? LOL!
Anyway, I put everything back together and took her for a run. She starts pretty well but requires just a slight opening of the throttle from cold. That would irritate some people but I've been doing that for a while now so I'm used to it. She also runs very smooth and feels less buzzy than on Thursday. And yes, indeed folks...she's smoking more than before! Like she should. :scoot2:
