Alright guys n gals...a few of you are familiar with me and my triton. After some debating Iwent ahead and bought a bbk for it. They sent me an alum one;not the iron one i ordered( kept future port mods in the back of my head). Two weeks and a few 100 miles later I sprung an oil leak at the head caused by a stripped head bolt in the case. And after I fixed that the crank seal behind my variator went bad.
That one chewed me up inside, cuz i was thinking I had to split the cases to change it. Not the case. I got the new one today after waiting nearly two weeks, and it had a small lip on it that makes it look bigger than the hole it comes out of. Took me ten minutes and it went in perfect.
Now for the good news. After all that time and fixing the scoots underlying problems, Ive come out of the darkness and heading into the light. I've had a leo vince TT exhaust, nico variator, and Dr. pulley sliders just sitting there waiting for me to fix the air leak. Anybody knows me knows that Im not patient. But it was worth it.
When I got the scoot, i was overall happy with it. got up to speed nice and went about 40- 45 tops. I just got back from my first run with the sliders and leo vince installed and MAN YOU GUYS SHOULDA SEEN ME CHEESING!!! I havent even messed with the carb yet and this thing feels like its turbo charged!! Just going two blocks down the road my factory chinometer pinned itself, so i hopped off the bike giggling like alil kid and got my garmin out.
Had traffic the way back. so im heading out now to go a few miles and see wat my garmin tells me. I know im excited, but i have to listen to my brain telling me to be careful. I pulled out into the road before and I coulda swore the front tire jumped up off the ground. And the roads around my house are 40mph. I was passing cars that first ride, thats when I looked down and saw her peggged. I didnt expect it to get up to speed so fast!!Im finally getting something good back outta this project.
Thank you brent, 2strokd, reveen, marshin,190mech, and theres three other buddies that have been helpful to me. Plus everyone else whose offered me guidance and advise.. Im not done yet. Its the start of a good thing... Ill update when I get back!

Good to hear you're happy with it. Be careful pissing those cars off getting passed by a scoot. lol Make sure you check the jetting ASAP.

Aw man I cant believe just how mad some people got when they saw me creep past them. A few had insecurity issues for sure. Like the guy in the 70's short bed step side chevy pick up. Like "c mon dude, Im just a moped-you dont have to flex your small block less than 100 yards away from a red light". haha
I have not installed the bigger variator yet, so besides my 5g sliders, the cvt is stock.
Cruising speeds went from 42-43mph to a breezy 48.7 constant. I hit a spot where I was running with the wind, drafting behind a sprinter and maxed at 52.0mph. I can tell its gonna need some refinement, and I made a lil check list.
I wanna try moving the clip on my needle to one spot richer. And tell me what could correct this: When I took it out the first time, it was cold. So it was getting extra fuel from the enricher and from 0 to 40-45 it felt good and strong. didnt lack power at all and just felt "right". Got to my peak power band in good time. But after it was warmed up, and ran for a bit, It seemed like that initial power wasnt there. Like heat soak. Its not suffering and still feels decent though. Im thinking that its gonna need more fuel somewhere... But after reading about the different jets, and needle positions, and adjustments, etc.. Im not sure where to start to correct that issue. It had a 70 main in there to begin with and Im gonna try a 75 and see how that goes.
Or instead of correcting the jets, should I put in a fresh plug and check its color after a wot run to give me a base idea of where to start?

Wish I was having the luck you are. I got a 82cc ATV engine on mine and still stuck at 40-42. How that speedo working? Did you GPS it to make sure it right.

I used the inside parts of the speedo you sold me with the casing from mine and everything works great. Its a lil harder to see cuz your gauge is in kph, with mph in small print under it. Compared to my garmin, the stock one and the keeway one were both close to ten mph too fast. My garmin reads the same thing as my integra does, so Im pretty sure its as close to accurate as I can get.
I rode in to work this morning without my garmin and was confident to take it on the highway and it did well. Initial take off is great with them sliders, and like I mentioned before its a lil sluggish until it finds its power band, and then takes off. I am messin with the carb today and see if it improves, and I ordered a contra spring, and pill springs to try and adjust the rpm's a lil.
From a stop, ill go wot, and itll take off, rev up, then rev higher, then the revs fall( belt slipn') and itll settle on a certtain rpm until speed increases and once it hits that spot, it just goes. I dont think ive even stretched it out fully yet, until I get my carb right(hopefully today).

I was gonna order a jog100 that scrappy sells, but the hell with that now! If I keep going with this motor, and fine tune it, just maybe Ill reach my goal sooner than expected.
A couple main goals Ive had for this scoot were mild and totally obtainable now that Ive reached one goal. 1.) travel about 45mph without being at wide open throttle all the time. Kinda like driving your car close to its redline constantly- you just dont wanna do that for obvious reasons.
2.) Keep up with local traffic- meaning my scoot would have to cruise at around 50mph. Im close with that. Cruising speeds are 48-49mph.
3.) Would like a max speed of 55mph or higher.
Pretty much in that order Id like to accomplish these goals. You guys got tritons going 70+. Although that would be awesome, I havent even split the cases.

From a stop, ill go wot, and itll take off, rev up, then rev higher, then the revs fall( belt slipn') and itll settle on a certtain rpm until speed increases and once it hits that spot, it just goes. That's the effects of the sliders and the torque driver shifting. Sliders will increase RPM at takeoff more than rollers. When the RPM drops, that's your torque driver shifting into high gear. You can get a straight grooved torque driver and keep RPM much more steady. They have pros and cons though. You should be able to keep in the powerband better with the straight grooved driver, but then you lose the lower RPM cruising that you can get out of the stock torque driver. You could try just a little lighter sliders and see if that helps keep the revs up better after the shift. It might end up making the revs too high at launch though. Gotta test it to find out. Parts For Scooters sells a Hoca torque driver that works well, but they only sell them as a whole rear pulley so they are pricey. You can get just the torque driver from NCY I think and probably others. If you stick with the stock TD, you can probably mod it to pick up a little top speed. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=transtech&action=display&thread=358Pretty much in that order Id like to accomplish these goals. You guys got tritons going 70+. Although that would be awesome, I havent even split the cases. The faster you go, the harder it is to go faster. It's that way with pretty much everything.

Yeah. It's in there. I have 2 of them. You can get it without a bell a bit cheaper, but I like the vented bell and it's got a pattern machined inside to help it grab. If you did go with that you'll probably wanna ditch the contra spring it comes with. It's stiffer than the 2000RPM contras I have here. The clutch setup isn't as nice as the really trick stuff like Stage 6 but it gets the job done quite well on T1 and the Venus.

I forget where you live but they allow Scooters on the highway there? You can't go on the highway here in MI with anything under 125cc

Im in myrtle beach south carolina. I know the basic rules in this state, and the handbook doesnt give a limitation to whaty roads can be traveled. It gives a speed limit to how fast 50cc & under can go. I see mopeds on 501 and 31 which cars travel from 55mph to about 70mph. Ive been told that the poilce dont bother us if our lights work and we got that tag that says MOPED on the back. And if they catch you going over 40-45 Im sure they'll pull us over. Its a beach town. lots of tourists. LOTS of mopeds. We dont get bothered too often..

So last night I went from a 70 main to a 75 and she did alright. I noticed a very small stumble when first applying throttle, but throughout the whole rpm range its smooth. I dont know if I gained any top speed. If anything I may have lost 2mph on top. Coulda just been the wind though..
I did try to take out the air box snorkel late last night to see how it acted, and I immediately put it back in when I got back to the pad. It would hardly accelerate, I had to feather the throttle to get down the street and I think she even back fired through the pipe a few times. Heard something weird.. So that didnt work well.. Im gonna do a plug chop after work today, but I may go back to the 70 main, or order a 72.5.
And I dunno why but this thing is sucking the gas down like crazy!! previous owner drilled out the fuel petcock and I have a suspicion thats the culprit. Could that also throw off my ability to tune the carb? Since its getting a steady supply of fuel instead of relying on vacuum to do the job? I can pull the vacuum line off and nothing changes..
