It's the way vehicles are produced now. Geely are not going build a new engine, frame just for Harley. They will use some existing model and change it a bit.
At the moment Harley Davidson is getting hammered hard by European union tariffs. At the present time they are subsidising some of this cost. They have already said it it continues, they will have no choice but to build bikes in Europe. They just can't afford to be priced out of one of their biggest markets.

...and they build shitty engines. LIke if I was going for an American made bike, i’d look at a lot more manufacturers than HD. And if I didn’t matter, like I wasn’t trying to join the hells angles, I’d get a BMW. Even Sonny Barger rides a Victory.

Are Harley engines still unreliable? Ive heard they have had problems before but thought they were reliable now. Theyre stupid overpriced.

Every nut, bolt, screw, wire, connector, socket, hose, tube, decal, etc, etc, costs at least a Hundred Dollars on a Harley Davidson so yes, they are expensive. Since every part is so expensive the suppliers cheat on quality and the assemblers swap cheap repro parts for the originals or leave stuff off at every point -they are unreliable. Almost as unreliable as a China scoot.

made in CHINA for CHINA The new motorcycle will be produced for sale in China. All units sold in the United States will continue to be built domestically. Also worth noting; QJ owns VOLVO, the world’s second largest manufacturer of heavy-duty trucks.

Harley has a bigger problem a aging customer base and a product that does not appeal to Millennials ! This is a move to gain some probability and a understanding of the small cc market so hopefully they can translate that into more world wide sales .

Harley never did the V rod justice when it first came out as far as marketing goes . They made it seem like it was old guys vs new age new technology etc that sort alienated the base crowd into hating the V rod and that is a shame because that was a good bike just needed refining it and making a smaller lighter version of it would have been cool for smaller riders women etc 750cc version maybe .. When i hit the auctions in San Diego you have 250 Harleys on the line every month easy how do Harley dealers make any money ? lol Sevice Parts SWAG ! I will be working on one this week cutting the pipe and removing the cat and re welding , cause he was quoted 400 bucks from the dealer lol 125 hr plus parts etc tax lol Damn I am only asking him for one big face and some Heinekens LOL

Funny, that! Harley's American "image". They were not the first to go foreign...but the "All American Iron" has not been all American since the early 1950's, when they first sourced parts....in CHINA!
Currently Chinese owned: MG, Volvo, Benelli, London Taxi Company. In addition they have major JV's with VW-Audi, Daimler Benz, Ford, GM, Nissan and BMW. Citroen, Peugeot, Cummins, Dana, Honda, Nissan, Infiniti, PSA, Renault and Kia have JV's also.
They recycle old American cars into new Chinese ones.
