I think it was a dutch or german company, they were a variator that had the ability to shift by pushing a button.
I remember watching a video of it, and finding a few old articles about it, it's pretty old probably early 2000's.
Just trying to remember the name of the thing so I can show someone else.
I have googled the hell outta it but no luck

Pito; Are you talking about specific ratio shifting? There are many videos regarding 3+ kw electrics with CVT's, but shifting? I saw a road bicycle that had a shifted front sprocket...telescopic gear system with fixed rear gear. The older hybrids use a "shift" system where the engine provides power to a certain (fuel efficient) level and then the servo brain kicks in to each wheel, giving needed torque. Those can be selected. I think the Smart cars in Europe used a shift system to engage specific ratios. I drove one with a diesel, not a hybrid, but a CVT..maybe called an EVT? It was a 6 speed, but the tranny was sort of a hybrid. It had a conventional gearbox, driven by a servo controlled belt and clutch system. German Getrag...the Smart was/is a Swiss/German company owned by Daimler-Benz.
That may not be what you are looking for. The Smart cars had many different drives, plus the new E-version. The original car was early 90's, however. I drove one, a rental, from London to Wales on the M4. Surprisingly fun, even with lorries passing. (big rigs)
Interesting!!

No this was an add on variator to your typical piaggio or minarelli that allowed you to "shift" via 2 buttons up or down.
It was kinda gimmicky and didn't really work well from what I read. But made your scooter sound like a shifty.
