OK scooterfriends, I need help. This issue is driving me nuts. I bought a used Lance Cabo 50 project a few months back. In the interim I moved, consequently lost the keys and had locksmith take apart ignition and make new keys instead of purchasing replacement. Issue #1: as soon as the battery is connected, the scooter has power; lights, Horn, starter, everything. Now, this could have pre-existed the new keys, but I cannot confirm.
Issue #2: no spark.
I basically ignored the ignition power issue and attempted to solve the no spark issue.
Before I get any further, I have a question. Do the kill switches (main ignition, under seat safety, power off, and kickstands) cut power completely to the ignition and starting circuits, or do they only keep the cdi from sending spark? I assumed that every switch when switched off would kill the scooters starter motor as well as spark... ??
So here's what I've done... tested for spark against engine.. nothing... new plug.. no change.
Replaced cdi with another from a genuine venture... no change, so reverted to oem
Replaced ignition coil and wire with aftermarket... no change, so reverted.
Removed stator... this model only has 3 wires total, a blue/yell for the pickup, and 1 white and 1 yellow from stator. No ground wire. Is this a floating ground stator then? All wires passed resistance test. Sanded pick-up surface. Reassembled scooter... no spark.
I also tested my positive cable to the frame and engine and got 12v throughout so I believe have good ground.
So at this point, I am a bit lost. Could order a new stator and cdi, and see what happens, but before i do, I thought i would ask you guys. Is this a ground issue that is beyond me? I've heard that some scoots can have a bad headlight and cause no spark... so I reattached all wires to fairings etc, still no spark. One of the bulbs could be out, I can check. Open to any suggestions. I'm mechanically inclined, have the tools and a fair amount of electrical understanding, so should be able to test anything you guys suggest...
Thanks in advance for the help, this is my first post.
