YIKES!!! Buy another kit? Try making one. An exato knife for the cylinder hole and the oil slot. A cheap set of gasket punches for the stud hole. Some thick gasket material. All ya got to loose is 20 bucks or so.

The cylinder i can hone, the gaskets I can make, but finding new good rings without the kit is hard.. LOL no i don't want to spend that kind of money but I really need to fix it...
But for now the variator problem is first on my list, then Ill come back to the compression issue..

Sounds like a good plan Larry, building up the area with a MIG and then grinding it down to the size you want. Do post the results if you end up doing this. As for making guides out of bronze the thing about bronze is that it is supposedly slightly self-lubricating. But I suppose it ends up being a question of which material is the softest, the aluminum guide pins or the bronze guides. The softest will be worn down...

Oilite or Bearing bronze has those properties, but it's a bit softer than others.

Variator Backing plate thickening.. Step 1 The Build up. Current unmodified measurement of backing plate where the key guides go is 2.50 mm My goal is to increase this area to 4.50 mm.. This is right after the welding, have lots of clean up and shaping to do.. Just wanted to show everyone we are in fabrication mode, and the progress thus far..

Have faith ;D ;D ;D This is what Industrial Maintenance does, we solve problems.. The bummer is that this is custom work not something you can buy off the shelf. I really would have preferred it being something others can easily do.. I don't know maybe when this is said and done, Ill see someone about having a special backing plate and keys made with this already done.

Looks like a lot of work, but seems like a good idea.

Looks like a lot of work, but seems like a good idea. Yea maybe it is a lot of work, but it's a labor of love.. Besides I really want to go up against skeedr.. Would be an honor just to be in the same class as him.. . But I can't even attend unless I get this fixed and time's running out so i have to get this figured out... ;D ;D ;D

Have a bit more work yet to do but it's getting there, Just wanted to share the progress, I'm also making the holes just a bit wider as well to increase the slot depth of the new plastic keys from 2 mm to 3 mm and the ramp plate edge is now 4.5 mm thick.. Getting there tomorrow I will finish this make things a little more uniform, and balance the plate, then start on the new plastic keys..

if that doesnt work i dont know what would If this works Fast, Ill see a machine shop about making them more professional and some place to make the keys, This was a lot of work. And my dremel is just screaming ( bad rear bearing ) I think.. I already know you will need one for yours, and I'm sure there will be others... It should be included in a kit with this crank..

Just a quick update: Took Fawkes for a spin with the new variator setup. Buried the speedo twice in a 30 mph head wind. So there was plenty of stress on the setup.. So far so good, took the CVT apart to inspect it and every thing looks really really good..
Had some concerns over speed as the ramp plate I modified was not the Hoca's, it was a stock one for testing.. However plenty of power, stays in the power band and even with the newer bigger front tire buries the speedo.... It's early yet to be sure but............ I think I got it :-) :-) :-)

I've got my fingers crossed for you and your new setup. Quick rides are nice, but even better when they stay together.
