I noticed the testbed 103cc was hard to push back in the garage after a WFO run testing another secret weapon.Pulled the CVT cover to have a look, clutch was dragging badly, removed the whole unit to find this; A broken spring attach on a shoe and the shoe plate was bent at each pin.The whole thing wouldnt have lasted much longer.. I guess this is why if you are doubling the engine size, maybe it is a good idea to spend a little money on upgrading the CVT system too!!

So the pivots are the only thing holding the shoes perpendicular to the plate. Interesting that the plate itself is the weak part. They must make a clutch with a thicker plate right?
