I’ve been looking around the internet for a new harness because the current one on my scooter is withered down and likely doesn’t work anymore, but I am unsure what to buy as I do not want to risk getting the wrong wiring. The scooter is a 50cc 4-stroke, does anyone have any advice?

my advice is to find a 'generic' wiring harness. They all have the same functions to perform, so need the same connections and schematic. You can find a complete harness on the web, or from a parts store. I have seen them in the $30-35 ballpark, I think. Unless the wires are corroded, the insulation melted or burned, or the connectors broken and not keeping things connected, there is no reason to replace the whole thing. You can test each circuit with a VOM. Replacing the whole harness is a lot of work that you may not need to do. I'd see what works and what doesn't before going to the trouble of replacing the whole thing. There is a generic schematic available on site, actually more than one. You can find a Taotao schematic on the web without a lot of difficulty. Print that, and mark it up to match the color of your wires insulation. Use it as a guide to test the circuits. I think you'll do a lot better fiddling with the wires you have than you'd do replacing the whole thing. Getting the wires dressed, placed and routed is not easy, and you don't want the wires getting pinched by the fork moving back and forth. tom
