It looks like there is an Indian Scout in my wifes future. She rode a Scout a couple weeks ago and really liked it. At 100 horsepower, it will be a big step up from her tired 1999 Honda Nighthawk 250. I missed getting the used one she liked with only 500 miles on it. Sad, because it already had loud aftermarket pipes on it. Loud pipes are really her only requirement for a bike. As soon as we find the right one I guess I will be pulling the trigger. I was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with the Scout? Also what are opinions of ABS on motorcycles?

I have 2017 Indian Chieftain LTD with abs and I don't know how well it works, haven't tested it out. I guess the real question is whats not to like? If it keeps me from locking up a wheel and losing control in a panic stop I'll take it. Check out this forum www.indianmotorcycles.net

What about the Scout Sixty? Same engine. Same look, but 78bhp. Less of a step up.
ABS on modern bikes is good. Much better than the systems of even a few years ago.

The 60 also has one less gear in the transmission a 5 speed vs 6 speed. Unless that changed with this year's model. I would stick with the larger displacement scout model if you are looking and don't have a preference, for some reason I'm thinking the aftermarket support for go fast goodies is better. There is a pretty good used inventory, people buy them as starter bikes and find themselves moving up. I know if the scout existed when I bought my C90 Suzuki in 2005, I would have had to think harder about what I was going to buy. That will be cool and good question . I have a opinion on ABS it's just that a opinion only !
Ok I HATE them but they work the latest generations work decent ! My reason for saying that is i was taught the road racer style of braking on the street . Have a feel for your levers and tires at all times and trust your tires and brakes . You know how much pressure it takes or lever position to skid the front in wet or dry so you feel comfortable if it does skid you got it !
ABS kills that skill and in my opinion DUMBS you down , By the same token if you are fresh rider you could probably care less They work it's just different, that weird sort of rotation bump pump method kills me on some bikes and you have no control of it once it is activated .. Yes it works i just think you should learn that basic pump pressure release method also it works in Wet hot oily surfaces panic stops just a good skill that could save your life !

After so much consideration I think we have found the bike for my wife. We have looked at the Scout, the Scout 60, ABS and non ABS in both versions, 2019 models and 2020 bikes (better financing deals on the 2019), I am tired of looking. I think I have her talked into a nice used 2018 Scout Sixty ABS with only 4900 miles on it. It just happens to have almost all of the accessories she wants requires already installed on it. There is one very big problem though, she HATES the color. I have promised her a wrap or paint job for it in the near future. She wants some form of black.....she is so hard to please. LoL!

You can also look for salvage bikes being parted out, I bought used tins for cheaper than a paint job on another bike.

ABS can save less skilled riders from locking the front wheel in a panic stop. Add all around LEDs so the cagers can see her.

If it's a good deal. Then it might still work out cheaper to change the colour. Wrapping has come a long way, in the last few us years.

I signed the papers today and the bank is overnighting the check to the dealer. Hopefully we will be picking up the bike Saturday. If it's a good deal. Then it might still work out cheaper to change the colour. Wrapping has come a long way, in the last few us years. I am going to check painting prices, she wants it either flat or matt black. I was also thinking about powder coating. I know the fenders can be powder coated, but I dont know if they can do gas tanks. I plan on taking the parts off myself, so hopefully I can keep the costs low. I think a wrap would also be a good choice if I can find somebody around here that will do it.

It's home, kinda. She is out riding, it was difficult to get her to stop long enough for the short vid! I picked up a nice modular helmet for her while we were there. It sounds much louder than the video shows.

So far things are going great with this bike. There only issue the wife is having with anything at all is, the hot exhaust. She has a couple burns just above the knee on the inside of her thigh. I have been told to do something about it, so I am open to any suggestions

I do like the way you think Paul! But I dont think that will work for her. And asking her to be more careful did not go over well, so it's my job to fix the problem, somehow. I wonder if some silicone wrap would help, or just get hot too.

I had a pipe that burned the crap outta me on midbike long ago. After one scarring burn, I made a simple heat shield out of some flashing. Never had another problem with it. I'm sure it could be made much more pleasing to the eye with more care/time.
