Could always try wrapping the exhausts if all else fails. It would still get hot. But not burn.

Glad you like your Indian, I enjoyed helping make it for you. I was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with the Scout? Also what are opinions of ABS on motorcycles? Probably more then anybody . And ABS should be a standard, wouldn't want to ride without it.

Respectful photos of the burn and higher areas for scale purposes only would help in providing recommendations.

That will be cool and good question . I have a opinion on ABS it's just that a opinion only ! Ok I HATE them but they work the latest generations work decent ! My reason for saying that is i was taught the road racer style of braking on the street . Have a feel for your levers and tires at all times and trust your tires and brakes . You know how much pressure it takes or lever position to skid the front in wet or dry so you feel comfortable if it does skid you got it ! ABS kills that skill and in my opinion DUMBS you down , By the same token if you are fresh rider you could probably care less They work it's just different, that weird sort of rotation bump pump method kills me on some bikes and you have no control of it once it is activated .. Yes it works i just think you should learn that basic pump pressure release method also it works in Wet hot oily surfaces panic stops just a good skill that could save your life ! OK...OK...I have read the threads. There are truths that can b equally true. I personally believe that skill is learned and taught and carries on. My son at age 13 learned to drive my Toyota Tacoma with a 5 speed. He had NEVER driven before. He is now 36 and will tell you and show you that he has skills. He can do manual braking and chicken shit braking...(sorry, that is ABS). Good at both, but not the same. He would point out what others have said. You can only account for dumb ass drivers with tech that helps them. I agree! There is NO ABS that can out brake me on an equal bike. We tested in the '90s. You MUST however possess motor skills that cannot be simulated by pressure lag or amplitude. The same cannot be said for an average to poor operator. Sorry, but that is the truth. We took a BMW R1100R and a GSXR 750 through some tough high and low speed mountains. The 750 obviously, had an advantage on power and handling. Both had A BS. First run? The GSXR with ABS kicked it, but from it's light comparative weight. The second, uphill, run was near equal...with the BMW having better handling and could use the power (torque) better. Next we did down and up with no ABS. The GXXR was a lot better, downhill, but got smoked on the return. The difference? Brakes and drivers. Mind you...these runs were near 90 miles, each way. The point? One pro driver and one real good street crazy. The street guy was way too reliant on ABS, thus got blown away where he should have been smokin' it! ABS is awesome, but not for me. I have it on my CRF...never used. My favorite endurance road race bike was a GSXR 1000 with a normal right sided front brake lever...and two rear levers. Foot and bar. The one used the most? Was left bar mounted. Under the clutch lever. Touch it barely and you did not need to back off the throttle, but already cornering. It was 'da shit!

The wife had her heart set on a Harley, but once she rode the Scout it was pretty easy to change her mind. The ABS was definitely the right choice for HER. She has been riding most of her life but we are aging and the reflexes are slower nowadays. Also since her heart attack a few years ago she is a bit panicky especially in times of stress, so hopefully the ABS will help her in those critical moments.

I took my very first ride on the Indian today! Actually, it was my first ride on any motorcycle in a long time. I am a bit rusty to say the least but it came back quick. I nearly pissed myself when I drug the left floorboard twice on a left turn. I was proud I did not reach up looking for the rear brake at the clutch position. I followed my buddy around on his Harley for about 70 miles, we had a blast! I gotta say the Indian Scout 60 is a bad ass machine. It has some serious torque and power IMO, I cant imagine it having another 26 HP like the standard Scout does. Its pretty tame under 3500 RPM, anything beyond that and it really wakes up. I tried a couple times to activate the ABS, but I dont think it ever came on. Lots of people were out and about today, lots of bikes too. We stopped at the Harley Dealership so my buddy could get a quick release for his helmet. I saw some really nice looking bikes there, at prices I would never pay.

Took another ride with my buddy Sunday. We rode about 140 miles, it was different than my scooter for sure! I dont know if I have mentioned how loud this thing is. My ears actually hurt after the ride, as in permanent hearing loss. I thought my scooters were LOUD, but this thing is a different kind of loud, I think it has to do with the lower frequencies. I will be wearing ear plugs from here on out when riding it. I took a couple scooter rides this week, before SC got the "stay home" order. I can lean the scooter waaayy over, ain't never scraped anything on it.

I actually like the running boards, that is until I have to do a panic stop and have no foot pegs to dig into to keep my 300lbs and family jewels from becoming ONE with the tank. Wife has a list of rules for when I ride her bike...........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

You are liking this, more and more. His and her Indian's? Definitely get ear plugs. I have permanent damage from riding at high speed for years. In the 80's and 90's it never crossed your mind to protect your hearing. Too late now.
