I'm going to see a guy tomorrow about a KYMCO scooter he is selling. He is selling it as-is for parts because he says the engine is blown. What should I be looking for. Are there any indicators that I can check to diagnose the engine? I understand that these scooters are 2 stroke with automatic oil mixing. No premix. The seller doesn't know anything. His college roommate gave it to him (title is available) with the claim that the engine was blown and needed to be replaced. I have a 50cc Chinese engine that I could use as a replacement cut I don't know if it is compatible. He doesn't know the model number but he gave me the vin number LC2U6A020EC001644 Can anyone decode the vin to see what it is? Can these engines be rebuilt?

Kymco is a very high quality scoot, many Honda parts fit as they built engines for Honda before they went out on their own,,They ARE rebuildable ,but may be expensive if you cant do it yourself..Its likely the piston/cylinder is bad and is an easy repair,,If its cheap,it is worth getting..

Thanks 190mech, that info is real helpful. I did find a website to decode the vin and it is an "Agility 50" 2014 and it is dirt cheap. Regards, Jim

I believe the 2014 Agility were all 4 stroke.

That's interesting. Do you suppose that it is one of those Chinese GY6's. That would be great since I already have one of those.

If it is cheap buy it . It could be something simple that is holding it back .

Mechanically it is a good deal but what came to light today is that the title is fouled up. It will now cost more than it's worth to get a clean title. I don't have the time or energy to buy it and part it out. Anyone here in Jacksonville that wants a parts bike with a bad engine. The engine seems to be four stroke engine but not a GY6.
