I’d like to verify the variator restrictor ring in the attached photo. It’s marked with a red dot. I’ve watched a few youtube videos on how to remove this limiter, but before I really get into disassembly I’d like to make sure this is the piece that needs to be removed. Any help is appreciated as well as lessons learned or advice for this project. 2016 Baodiao Boom (Chinese Scooter) 49cc 79 miles

Your variator has wear all the way out so its not restricted. You can confirm it with the marker test.

It appears that it is a spacer or shim of sorts, but not necessarily a restriction. If it is larger than the diameter of the drive boss and doesn't allow the variator to travel past it, then it's a restrictor. If it's the same OD as the drive boss, then it's a spacer that may or may not limit top speed to some degree. You could take it out and see what happens. Move it or use other spacers to make up for it so that everything installs properly if you do. What may happen is that you lose the belt travel toward the center and it takes off slowly though.

I can not see real well. It could be just some belt dust or other wear particles left where the variator bushing does not wipe them away. Try cleaning it off with some brake cleaner.
