Through the 70's and up to the 2000 odd there was a peace camp near the gates by the fence then a women's peace camp and now it is a very big trading estate I think mostly and based near Newbury Berkshire. I use to pass it a lot for about 3 decade's when it was in use as a nuclear missle base and always see the camp. My wife can even remember going with her parents on CND marches when she was 8 yrs old there and handing out leaflets. I passed it recently and stopped as they turned it into a peace park and took some pic's. Even a plaque to a girl in Welsh who got crushed by a military vehicle there who comes from our way in Wales.

I spent some time at Mildenhall and Abington air bases. According to Google I guess they're not close
From Google it looks like your Greenham is on what appears to be a abandon airstrip? Maybe a old WW2 base?

RAF Greenham Common was an RAF and US Air Force base south of Newbury & Thatcham in Berkshire. This was once an airfield that operated through World War Two, the Cold War (with USAF Strategic Air Command and B-47s) and later with the US Air Force 501st Tactical Missile Wing with 96 Ground Launched Cruise Missiles (GLCM).
