after reading the whole thread, I have to ask, What type of Performance are you looking for?
I have never owned an Elite. I have ridden a stock one as well as a highly modified one. I have always wanted one but could never afford to buy one here in Honolulu.
your initial idea of a 52mm full stroker Polini Corsa is intense. to go from a 40mm bore x 41mm stroke to 47mm bore x 52mm crank is a big jump. reliability and setting port timing would be your biggest challenge with that set up.
your other idea about a Full Stroker Large Bore setup from Taida is viable. There is a shop here (808Cycles) which the owner of the shop is all about large stroker setups. he sell the Taida parts. from what I gather from research, Heat Spikes and breaking drive belts are the biggest issues with Full Stroker Large Bore AF16-type engines.
then yet another idea was the Minarelli platform. Here in Honolulu, there was only 1 shop that supported Minarelli based scoots, everyone else catered to 2 stroke Hondas and 4 stroke China. they did the Polini Evo, large Evo, Stage6 R/T 70 & 95, 2Fast4Race, and Taida stuff for Minarelli, Piaggio, Yamaha, and SMC. 70cc race bores for Minarelli's can rev to 14,000 rpm, if you're looking for Speed. Or you can go the 90cc route and change the gearing, it won't rev to 14k like a race 70 can, but the torque will satisfy you.
for the Honda Elite, if you want performance and reliability, Stock Honda crank, Polini Corsa, and a Phongeer long pipe or an Arrow pipe. reliable and fast, as well as proven, especially here on Oahu. **Scorpion pipes as well.
you want to get nuts with the Honda, go with the big stroker setup. be forewarned of the drawbacks (heat and breaking belts).
one shop here stands by the Ministroker (43,44 mm stroke cranks from Taiwan) Polini Corsa with the PG long pipe.
I love the look of the Honda Elite, however, those are highly prone to getting stolen here. the Hondas here are legit fast. some claims from Hawaii are outlandish, but I have race several Hondas Elites in a Mazdaspeed MX-5 (turbo Miata) and a handful of Hondas held their own, actually impressive.
I have a Chinarelli bike. fiddled with the 70cc sport and mid-race stuff. after spending a few thousands on parts and trial and error, I finally seen the light of what a Minarelli tuner told me. he told me this:
"instead of spending hundreds of dollars on parts (for the 70cc minarelli), just find yourself a Rex (SMC 90cc minarelli clone from Taiwan) engine, change the gearing, and you can run with the Hondas all day long, strokers and all".
I finally ended up with a big block Minarelli with a 54mm aluminum/nicasil Taida bore mated to YMS V8 90cc sectional pipe with Malossi up gears. it was then that I learned that Minarelli's can outrun the infamous "fast Hondas in Hawaii".
if you go with the Genuine RoughHouse or Buddy, those are Minarelli type bores with Honda type transmissions.
it is up to you to pick your Poison. Honda Elite stuff is reasonably priced and readily available here on Oahu because there is a big market for it, lots of fast Hondas here. Minarelli stuff is rare and expensive here. if you're into the tuning of the cases and flow aspects, the Minarelli has a better intake/case design in regards to the air coming in from the intake, into the case, and into the boost and transfer ports. the Honda engines intake/case design has the air coming in from the side, so the intake charge comes across 1 transfer port before reaching the boost port and the second (far side) transfer port. However, the transfer ports on the Honda type setups can be ported much large than the Minarelli transfer ports.
