Even with no new cases it will be years before you can be normal with existing cases or airlines, boats, ships, etc, entering the country with passengers and crews.
Every country and locality in the world should have had emergency plans for a contagion set up long ago. Scientists have known this would eventually happen anywhere for 50 years or more. The fact that the local and world leaders were not ready is totally inexcusable.
EDIT:
Here is an interesting discussion:

There's still so much conflicting info out on nearly everything. It's wild. I just saw a guy on CNN last night that modeled a prediction of 160,000 US deaths by early August with states reopening. Didn't really give any credentials other than he has a website. Other models had predicted us to end up around 60,000-70,000 and look where we are right now. One report says a vaccine is practically here. Another says we may never have one. I guess we all want answers so bad that we'll listen to anything, and really eat up the stuff that sounds scary.
I guess meat hoarding is really a thing now. One of my mother's friends ordered half a cow long before we even knew of COVID. I guess it takes quite a while with the farm that he dealt with, but it's supposed to be good quality meat at $5/lb. About 150 pounds worth. He planned to buy a freezer when the meat was ready to be delivered. Which happens to be now. Seems like good timing on his part, but now he can't find a freezer. He called to see if we could take some of the meat and we said yes, but then he never called and stopped answering all forms of communication. Damn dude. We didn't care either way. Didn't have to cut all ties if you found a way to keep it or found someone else.
Then my uncle says that my cousin who runs a truck trailer company had a connection to buy as much chicken as he wanted. So he went and picked up over 1,000 pounds of chicken breasts for his family of 3 and his brother and sister and parents. About 10 people total. My uncle is now talking about buying a 3rd freezer (prob hasn't looked online yet) and has already ordered another 80 pounds of burger and pork chops from a local butcher. His words were "everyone else may run out of meat, but I'll be eating everything that I like". I get it. We have to look out for ourselves, but this group of 10 or so people that will probably be buying up 1500+ pounds of meat over the course of a week is ridiculous. I have a feeling this is not an isolated incident, based on freezers being sold out all around here.

The crazy bulk buying caused chaos to our supermarket supply chains they seem to have caught up now,but with the UK on lockdown at least till 1st June and 6.5 million now furloughed(on gov payroll)the landscape supply companies cannot keep up with demand,my garden/yard can wait.

Geoff We had the bulk buying, and it seemed like things were improving... but now COVID is hitting meat plants and they've been talking about meat shortages on the news. Sussex county in DE neighbors my county in MD. They are up to something like 2,500 cases and climbing fast now after taking something like a month to even reach a couple hundred. It just took off suddenly. Lots of poultry business there and the cases are now said to be mostly related to that industry with cases in other neighboring counties that are now rising also said to be poultry plant related. I don't see how it can be all written off as a poultry plant issue. The people that work there are just like everyone else. Half of them are probably in Lowe's every weekend. Meanwhile, I kinda wish I owned a Harley. They still seem to be immune to stay at home laws. I watched a group of about 20 people go by on HDs yesterday. Then later in the afternoon the local motorcycle gang clubhouse sounded lively. They're prob 4 miles away by road, but not all that far as the crow flies and of course they all have loud exhausts so it's easy to hear bikes firing up and riding from here. I'm up to something like 35 scooterless days ATM. I do see sport bikes and metric cruisers, just not in groups like so many HDs that pass the house.

Don't ride behind each other without masks, the aerosols blow with the wind... Actually you just ride through the aerosols from the person in front of you. I think something is fishy with the testing done at packing plants The tests may be reacting to an environmental problem. It seems strange that the contagion rates are that high without the whole group of plant workers and their families being sick or dead. I am lucky in that I have had enough bio science and other tech education that I can understand and sort out the wild pandemic reports, most of what I hear is plain BS.
I hope those buyers have good storage facilities and better backup power generators...

We had the freezer thing going on here for a while. First they cleared shops of canned goods. Then realised if they brought a freezer, they could stock pile meat. It's just crazy, and selfishness.

Yeah. I know someone that bought a huge ass freezer too. Me, I’d just rather skip meat for a while.

My parents had a huge freezer, for the half of a buffalo that dad shot when they thinned a local herd. Mom got real tired of buffalo but I still like it. I have a fair size chest freezer that hasn't been turned on in 10 years. They ought to just turn off the power for about a week where people hoard meat... HEHE I just try to make do with other foods or products I am old, brain-dead, and torn up so it does not matter if I die. I still have 'projects' to do in my retirement. I worked my whole life to be able to do things in my retirement, so far retirement really sucks. Buy shit now and do stuff now! Retirement is not worth saving for.

I am a bit concerned. The beach has opened up and in the course of 2 days it is as busy here as I have seen it in a very long time. The south end is packed with the Harley riders and my area is full of families, young people and bikers of all types. The boulevard is very close to being a parking lot. Very few people seem to be concerned in the least bit about COVID-19. Sidewalks, bars, and restaurants are packed. It seems social distancing is non existent, and people are acting straight up crazy, they are really letting off some steam. I guess they think you cant get sick while on vacation? I am just worried that we are headed for a disaster here, I hope I am wrong.

Yeah, what is happening is truly shocking. There are so many facets of irrational behavior and illogical decision making it’s not even worth trying to list them all.
All I can say is this feels and seems like it’s only the beginning. Even once the disease dies off, the ripples this creates are going to be lasting and likely very negative.
New Zealand is a prime example of what could have Happened here and across the rest of the world. They essentially eradicated it in about a month. Several days now with no new cases and the leaders have even been encouraging the public to give one another a hug.
This whole ordeal has completely changed my feelings about the US. My girlfriend and I have decided that we will be moving out of the US within six years. I really don’t see how this is any longer the greatest country or the freest. We’ve taken some of the greatest freedoms we had from ourselves in so many ways and if this doesn’t illustrate that, then I don’t know what could. Very sad.
