I was doing general maintenance to my triton this morning, and when I checked my compression I got a reading of only 52 psi.
I am quite baffled because my scooter starts, runs, idles, and drives very smoothly. Even at wot I top out at about 51.5 mph.
What am I missing? I pull the plug, install the tool, leave the kill switch off and crank it over via electric start AND kick start enough times for the crank to complete at least 7 or 8 full strokes.
Weird...

It wasnt at full operating temp when I checked tho. It was rather like room temp. Would it give a reading like that or ?.....

Hold the throttle wide open is what you're missing there, but I think your issue is with the gauge and not the motor.

or the adapter is not sealing all the way in the spark plug hole

My adapter has got a rubber o-ring to help it seal and I ended up removing that and using a washer from an old spark plug instead. I got weird readings at times before that, seems to be fine since.

FYI: an engine, 2 cycle, or 4, NEEDS 90psi MINIMUM, to run. It may *think* about running @ 80psi (and will run with/on starting fluid), but to sustain "running" on gasoline, you NEED 90psi.

I also have a "sears" comp tester. I think it's off also. :bfg: At least the sears one does read 15-20lbs more than the H.F. one. :censored: I'd love to see a GOOD tester to compare.(OR a GOOD scoot to compare my tester with)
