In many places that is the requirement by law. When slower than traffic, ride to the right to allow passing. That is also why 50cc are supposed to ride single file ( this is state law in WI).

i will usually ride atw to the right myself. but some people just don't know how to pass. they either try to pass me at completely inappropriate times like going around a bend or with oncoming traffic coming at me other times they will get so close to me as the pass i could spit in their face. when that starts happening i move right on over to the center of the road cus ill be damned if I'm gonna let somebody run me off the road again

Yeah, i will take a lane when I'm not supposed to if ppl are being stupid too. I'd rather explain it if a cop sees me rahter than have the driver explain to the emergency crew why I'm flat.

i avoid 2 lane roads as much as possible, which it 95% of the time since i live in the Raleigh/Cary area. I dont get upset at people crossing the double yellow on a 2 lane to pass me. i would rather them pass me instead of riding 2 feet behind me and if they get a ticket for passing on a double yellow, thats fine by me as well.

I ride my lane and dont let anything around me in it unless its another scooter (buddy) Had a guy on a Hardley pass me on a two lane road with a double yellow the other day. I get pretty angry and we ended up pulled over and shared a few words. That ended up with him leaving on his Hardley and me still standing by my scoot giving him "the look". I wouldnt have been so angry if he hadnt got so close to my tail before he passed! He was so close to me, when i looked in my mirror i couldnt even see his headlight. THATS too freakin close on or in anything! Let alone two wheels! It all started because IMO the guy was pissy because a lil 49cc scoot left him at the light. I dont like to hold anyone up so when the light turns green i go. I could hear him go through a couple gears real quick and knew he was coming up on me but didnt expect all that, AND to get passed in a double yellow while doing 40 in a 35 (already speeding after i saw how close he was). I was pissed by then! All in all, i think i handled it well though.?. He stopped his bike right in the middle of the intersection and shut it off while he was dropping the sidestand when he saw me flipping him off.... Me on the other hand, i was smart enough to pull off at the next safe turnoff (not in the middle of a fourway intersection), and i didnt kick his stand back up and watch his bike fall over like i wanted to as i road around him telling him how much of an idiot he is... Nope i went on down to the closest safe place out of traffic to tell him and or maybe even show him how i felt. Beware!!! Unsafe idiot drivers are everywhere! Even on two wheels :scared:

As far as I am concerned double yellows are mere suggestions to be obeyed only when a cop is around. I have driving and judgment skills to allow me to know what is safe and what is not. I've seen many marked passing zones that I was not comfortable taking advantage of. Familiarity with the road is very important and I have been citationed for passing against the yellow a few decades ago. If I sense someone driving faster than me and wanting around I move to the right and slow down (regardless of what I am driving) because I would other want drivers to do the same for me.

Today a car came flying up behind me then went around me and cut it kind of close to get in front of me racing me to a red light. it was very satisfying to scoot up between this sap and the curb and turn right while said sap sat at the red haha. love it when that happens

My favorite is when there's a guy on the freeway weaving in and out of lanes trying to shave a little time off his commute and I'm staying in the fast lane going with the flow and I end up passing him three or four times cause he gets ahead and then cuts over to another lane and gets boxed in by slower traffic. Hahh Hahh! Duhhhmbass!

In Jamaica it's not only legal, but expected that motorcyclists split lanes and "go down the middle". No matter how many cars go whizzing by on a stretch, I will be back at the front of the line when the light goes red! I love seeing the looks on their faces when I go by. Of course, the role is reversed when I'm sitting in my car in traffic and those bastards go wizzing by on their cycles! LMFAO!
