So the trip is coming along nicely, the website is built and seeing upwards of 100 hits a day according to stats, and thanks to the three forums for the stickys and banners.
The two fold process before me now is aquiring the gear for the trip, and liquidating the assets of inventory i have in maine before i depart, couple this with geting the new scoot broken in, modifying teh scoot for the raod, and also daily activities this is not an easy task.
So far this is the shopping list that has been ordered
Ill add as this gets longer
Tool kit for the long trip as seen here (Thanks brent)
49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=basicstuff&action=display&thread=1485
is completely finished
Of course there is the scoot
www.dropbox.com/gallery/35382354/1/baja?h=df8d75
Then we need a helmet (the half face one i ride around town wouldnt do for this trip
125. 00 well spent
with the helmet we need to have a cool bag down below the front for odds and ends
* Fits Most Scooters Equipped with a Carrying Hook or Seat Hinge
* Doubles as a Backpack ? Removable / Adjustable Shoulder Straps
* 2 Convenient Zipper Comparents
* Install / Remove in Seconds!
* 14 Inch Length x 7 Inch Width x 5 Inch Depth
Now we move back towards the seat, at this point it was carefully studied many storage options for such a trip, the idea of saddlebags and roll bags and duffels as well as trunks were researched.
The saddlebags were put on hold for now due to overloading the scoot, and also if i add all this storage i would be tempted to overpack, also the "roll bag" that is seen with the indent for the seat on a motorcycle really is nothing more then a glorified overpriced duffel, this is where the people of dufflebags.com came in
so now here comes the duffel (roll bag)
MINE WILL BE RED
# 600D Polyester fabric
# Adjustable shoulder strap
# Shoulder pad
# Protective pipings
# Side zipper pockets
# Dual front zipper pockets
31" x 15.75" x 14.75"
now we move to the trunk, this was a very in depth research as this was where the trailer idea surfaced and was eliminated
Case is 21 4/5" L x 16 1/3" W x 13" H (Outside dimensions)
Color: Black
Universal mounting hardware included (nuts, bolts, washers, luggage rack brackets; rack is not included)
New Model, Now with metal base mounting plate.
Travel with style!
Carry the load on your trips.
2 Helmets fit inside.
Case comes with lock and keys
And as you can clearly see this is a much larger option then normal scooter trunks
Now moving on to more technical matters, i have purchased a CHT gauge and warning monitor from trailtech
trailtech.net/tto_temperature.html
I modified mine so that the inside logic board has a wire that runs under the scoots dash to the instrument cluster, at the end of this wire is a led red diode, this will mount on the dash cluster and blink rapidly once a preset (still trying to get info on just how hot is too hot) temp is reached, allowing me to shutdown and cool scoot before any problems arise
The dash on the scoot seen here
will be completely replaced with something close to this photo
there is still much to be done including a replacement of the gears in the scoot
www.partsforscooters.com/Gear_set_gy6?sc=9&category=119040
As well as sliders or rollers replaced (first i must break in teh scoot and determine the weights already in the scoot before replacement, (thanks lefty for that advice)
Also as we all know keeping the scoot cool is paramount to the success of this trip here is a neat little add on i am going to outfit the scoot with
scooterchromeparts.com/#/side-engine-intakes/4543905442
and as you all already know We live in a world filled and surrounded by social bookmarks and networking, this site was designed no different. You can like us on facebook, tweet to us on twitter, and even see the fuel consumption on fuelly. The technologies used to build this website are vast. There is the open source CMS platform known as joomla, its php and mysql backend. That’s just the start.
For mobile administration I will be using jooid for android, I have the ability to upload blogs, videos, and photos to a picasa gallery all from my phone
Thats all for now, much still needs to be done including a proper GPS unit to load the all important map (thanks again dean) and its alternate route to get me where i need to go)
Ill update if anything changes or anything new is purchased, it looks like the scoot trip is coming together at last and with the final sale of my old scoot (new one comes tomorrow and old one leaves tomorrow) its time.
