Also, maybe you've done this all before and it's nothing new, but i'd also suggest completely tearing down, removing the fuel tank, and cleaning it out. I've had to deal with bad fuel and water in fuel tank issues even after cleaning/flushing as much as possible while on the scoot. That just meant more wasted time because I should have fully cleared the tank before trying more stuff. I've "rescued" 9 scooters in the last year so...just trying to be helpful. Thanks all. I finally got back to this project last week. Installed a new cylinder and rings, drained the fuel, removed and cleaned the carb (not much to them), put in fresh gas, reattached everything, checked compression (only at 115 psi but should be enough to fire), and... NOTHING! Cranks and cranks but won't fire, rechecked all lines, have spark, have fuel (wet plug), tried everything I can think of. About the end of my rope on these. Even if the carb needs replacing I'd think it would at least fire with spark and fuel. They may end up in the bottom of the river shortly.

I had two like that. But it would fire up on starting fluid. Or after cleaning the carb bowl it would start briefly. Ended up having contaminated gas (one had water and another had too much crap fuel left in it from the cleaning).
Will it fire up with starting fluid after drying/wiping the spark plug off?

Have you adjusted the valves?

I tried that before the new piston but will try again. But the fuel is fresh and the carb's been cleaned. Will try again though. Thanks.

Have you adjusted the valves? 2-stroke, no valves to adjust. Learned this after a week of scratching my head trying to figure out where the valves were.

Putting a 3 oz plunger (open) into the fuel intake line of the carb is another way to try guaranteed fresh fuel without any potential crud from an old tank. But who knows, maybe there's something else.
