I bought a project scooter, any help or hints to take the front panels without breakage? I need to inspect the wiring and cables, fix the headlights. Then clean them up and put them back.

The panel with the headlights with a few screws( or is it just the big screw below the lights?), you don't have to take off the guard to remove it. I am not near mine, but there will also be 2 screws at the bottom of the panel, underneath it. Once those three are removed, the center panel will need to be slid down to release the L-shaped tabs holding it in place. it may be a bit tight, but you should be able to remove it by grabbing it from under the bottom and tugging it down, in the same direction as the seam. it only has to move a little to be able to lift it up and out of the slots. After that, you will have access to the wiring very easily, and it will also be very obvious how to remove the side panels, if needed. probably unnecessary, unless you need to remove the ignition switch, though that can be done if one has extreme patience and flexible tools and hands Reattaching the center panel is straightforward, but do make sure the tabs are all inserted and lined up, and don't force it back up, but you will have to tap it up by hand. if it does not go, double check the alignment and try again.

Thank you very much Claydoh, There is a big one in the middle, took that out and 2 little ones near the bottom under the headlights. Are these (pic) the ones you mentioned? I slipped my phone in there.

can't tell what the image is showing, I am not at home so i can't look at mine. There should be two phillips screws *under* the panel attaching it to the from or side panels , above the tire, where you can't see them unless you look from the ground up. Plus the big one below the lights and inside the cage thingy. There is a good chance that there are no screws there, my other scooter, a bintelli does have them there, so i could be mixing things up.
I can take photos if you don't get it figured out, but it won't be before tomorrow, possibly Sunday.

As I learned on mine, removing panels is Easy once the steps are shown. Damn shame that's not in the owners manUals.

Awesome thank you again claydoh, awesome pictures, that is very helpful. Jack rides I hear ya, I had to order the back plate that holds the rear sides together with the seat lock, they broke it and had it duct taped. I got my engine rebuild parts yesterday. I know what I'll be digging onto this weekend :-)

So I was totally wrong about screws on the bottom, definitely got my different scooters mixed. Haven't had to remove the headlight panel in the Tao tao in ages. There are two screws on the top corners above the glovebox, plus the big one below the headlamps. i.imgur.com/mkNETMZ.jpgClaydoh, does your scooter have 13" wheels? I'm trying to get the right air box for mine, it has 13" wheels. The VIP, CY50A, and GY6, air box I bought would fit a 10" wheel not a 13"

Ill guess you need one for the long case tho I think that usually fits 12 inch wheels. No clue about 13s

Thank you Claydoh, I'll do a bit more digging. I'm trying not to have to modify anything.

Muzzy hows it coming along? Mech Warrior, thanks for asking. It is finally put together and running. However when it's idling, the lights dim, but when throttled up it is bright as it should be. Ideas?
