Please forgive me for asking. I have a slow Google fiber internet connection, it is only 5Mbps down and 1Mbps upload speed. One of those freebie accounts that is supposed to be good for a few more years with an initial payment of $300 for installation. I live on SS and don't have the $$$ for a high speed internet connection. I may just have to go 'dark' when my free service goes away. Google keeps pushing me to upgrade for mega $$$$ so I wonder if this is their latest method to push an upgrade.
I find the 5/1Mbps service is adequate for me myself and I to use for streaming movies etc. The internet site servers seem to throttle your speed anyway so going Gigabit doesn't make sense. I suppose if I had 5 or more users in a house sucking at the same straw the gigabit service would make sense.
My service has been slow to respond intermittently recently. When I try www.speedtest.net/ it gives me the expected results 5/1. When I try speedof.me/ it only shows my download speed (5) and won't even try an upload. The test just stalls after the download portion. Speedof.me has always worked before. The results are the same with both tests on both of my computers which are roughly the same setup; W-7pro, and Firefox 60.x.esr. One computer is 64bit and the other is 32bit. I use wired ethernet for connections.
Is anyone else having difficulties with speedof.me/ or Google fiber?
Thanks for any info.

Both of the sites that you use give similar results for me. No issues with UL. SpeedofMe seems to use a larger upload test. It took a bit even with my connection. If your only symptom is this result, I wouldn't worry about it. help.speedtest.net/hc/en-us/articles/360039162393-Why-does-the-download-test-work-but-not-the-upload-test-BTW, I agree about the DL speeds. Comcast upgrades their DL speeds and I haven't really cared that much since it passed 100Mbps or so. The UL speed though, I wish they'd make that half of my DL. That's nice for uploading long 4K videos to YouTube like I do regularly.

Thanks for the info. It must just be my Google service is so slow it won't show up for speedof.me. Google still works for streaming and posting here even if it is a bit balky. It is much better than old dialup... I still have a 300Baud modem in my junk box.

I spent a long time on 56K before they finally brought cable into my area. I remember when I'd be happy because a download went fast at 5-10Kbps and when you actually had to wait for webpages to load. For me it's either cable or satellite now. Never have had other options, aside from the old stuff.

Kansas City was one of the first places to get Google fiber. I had Everest/Consolidated fiber to the home before that with excellent customer service. The worst was AT&T cable or Southwestern Bell. They had that old telephone utility monopoly mindset and NO/ZIP/NADA customer service. Monopolies are very very bad, for anything and there are a lot of them around.

I'm in the UK so may be different,I pay top £££ for my TV and broadband service from Virgin and last month my system slowed right down to pixelled TV and painfully slow internet connection after a lot of phone calls the engineer arrived and re rigged the house wiring without solving the fault,he then went to the service box down the street and fixed our connection.may be your system needs a health check.

Speedtest is still showing good 5/1Mbps with 0-ping results, the SpeedOf.me still won't do an upload test, used to work.... I just got another ad for gigabit Google and another from AT&T, trashed both. Fiberoptic to the home is the only worthwhile way to go. RF cable to the home can go down for a multitude of reasons at a number of connection spots. RF cable worked 20 years ago but it is not good now. I think Google is just playing games with my small packets of info connection to try to force me to upgrade to a $$$pendy service connection. My VOIP phone connection that does not come from Google has also been showing problems, echos, dropped calls, bad connections, etc. Google has their own VOIP phone service so they play games with other service providers. The internet service providers and cable companies are just milking the public for $$$$$$$$$$$$ for their corporate owners.

I should get the Gigabit Google service just to show you how slow my Intranet is. I do have a 24 port router but I am not sure it or my network wiring would support those speeds. I am sure one of my creaky old computers would not support it. It is a refurbished $150 Dell I bought when another Acer died. Both of them were old recycled corporate machines. I try to confine myself to Win-7pro only. Machines that will run it are getting hard to find and they are hard to load it on due to MS and Intel collaboration. When these break I will probably have to learn Linux and see if the programs I have or can find will run under it. I am getting really old. I was making computers in my Garage just like Bill Gates was only I used Motorola processors etc.
