I went to look at a bicycle which was only 15miles away said owner just the other side of Llanmyddyfri. 20 damn miles past it, it was bike was no good to fit electric motor to so on way back I got caught by a speed camera van. So either looking at 3 points on my license and £150 fine or a day on a speed awareness course if my last offence was long enough ago. Cannot remember if its 3 or 5 years. So now look to buy one and get delivered would have cost me less in the first place. Single speed bikes appear to be few and far in-between at present unless a fixie in these parts second hand.

Your such a bad boy. How fast were you going? They do allow you about 10% over. I started going out early in the morning about 10 years ago to beat the cameras, and traffic. When you were going well over 40 above the limit they don't like it. The 90's were the last good time to own a sports bike. Always stick to the 30's and 40's.

Yep days of sitting on the Lewis bypass when in Brighton at a ton is long gone. Maybe get away with it on parts of the A3M, 275 and 27. Well you use to be able to but being a responsible adult these days I wouldn't know. Most silly place I got pulled was outside Kingston Crescent Nick many moons ago. Is it still there aeroxbud ?

Yes police station still there. The A27 is always having speed camera vans. That's why you go out early. I have not been to any bike nights at Loomies this year but the A32 Portsmouth to Alton and A272 Petersfield to Winchester crossroads. Every Thursday at least one camera van.
Hopefully at 35 you might get away with it.

Speed camera vans. That sounds awful. Do they just setup a van that's basically a mobile speed camera and you get a ticket in the mail or is it like the more traditional speed trap here where the cop/van actually pulls you over and gives you a ticket?
Either way, it sucks. Speeding tickets often seem like a way to collect revenue much more than worry about public safety to me, aside from when speeds are way elevated.

It's the type that is built into the van and ticket through the post and send your license off.

It's much worse here Brent. You only get 12 points total on your licence. For minor speeding you will acquire 3 points. They last for 3 years. Once they add up to 12, you've got a 12 month ban from driving. You can't even ride a scooter, as that needs a licence.

You get 12 points here in MD too. 9MPH or less is 1, 10-19MPH over is 2, but they could say you were reckless or something else and then tack on 6 more. Higher speeds are 5. If you don't have proof of insurance it's 5. Stuff like a DUI or street racing is an automatic 12. I've actually lost my license for 7 months in the past from speeding and such and been through multiple driver improvement programs. You can be revoked for multiple years as well, depending on what they decide. One big difference is that I don't think you can get points from a camera here. It's solely revenue. I've had a few red light and speed camera tickets. Another good thing is that you tend to learn where those are. They aren't lurking around corners in vans.

We have fixed cameras too. They are supposedly there at accident black spots to reduce risk. But we know it's just a money making scheme.

How does this work? Do they measure your average speed between two points or just get you on radar?

Radar gun. With the vans, if you were riding a motorcycle, you used to get away with it. Now they have cameras to record your number plate as you pass.

That is Radar van is like a ATM for the local government . I lost my license twice as a kid my first car did 130 mph Datsun 240 z . Never Got a ticket with that one I out ran the cops twice out in the country with it. I got all my tickets on slower vehicles . If they had Radar vans I would have lost my license the first week with the Z.

You lose you licence. You don't get it back! You have to pass the driving test again before you can drive.
