It's only okay for water-cooled 2 stroke engines. Use 2T oil for air cooled models.

Can you be more specific?
What brand/type? Are you premixing or do you have an injector pump? etc...

Hold on there Fox. Did you see what sking said? It's marine oil, ie TCW3. You telling him to go ahead and use it in an air cooled application goes against everything I've ever been told here in 49cc. Care to expound?

I've been using that exact marine oil on my Triton since the day I bought it. Haven't had a problem yet. It's a synthetic blend, which is why I started using it. And it's exactly $5 a quart at Advance Auto Parts. A quart usually lasts me at least a year on my Triton.

Care to expound? I'm telling him it's okay because I actually did a little research on that oil and read the actual words that told me it's okay.

Okay, fair enough. However, I'm gonna stick with 2T from now on. I used to use Shell TCW3 (blue coloured) and now I use Shell 2T (straw coloured). The 2T is thinner from what I can tell, which though it may mean it stands up less well to heat, I like the potential for putting my oil pump under less pressure. Although I see the data you guys allude to, I tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to lubricants and other fluids. I drive a Mitsubishi Galant which has a bad rap (at least around these parts) for transmission failures. Mitsubishi DEMANDS that you use their SPIII fluid in the cars, but you would be shocked by the number of mechanics that tell owners "any transmission fluid will work". I listened to those morons and ended up putting some synthetic crap in there. Transmission shifted like it was on an 18 wheeler. I quickly switched back to SPIII and all was well. Lesson learnt. Therefore, after being told in no uncertain terms here on this very site that 2T was the way to go, I ain't budging.

Pennzoil synthetic blend TCW-3 oils appear to be made in 2 different grades, the higher grade labeled XLF for about $18 a gallon as compared to the Premium Plus at $12.
That said: Shell oil=Pennzoil. Shell currently manufacturers (bottles, and packages) ALL Pennzoil product.

Ive always put a cap or two of Marvell Mystery oil in all my 4T stuff from Hotrods, to HDs, to thumper woods racer . . .I think its just an ATF derivative mixture, but I think it helps keep stuff clean and varnish/carbon free. As for the scooter, I read a lot of stuff about 2t oils on a few different sites from scooters, to sno-mobiles to marine and the general consensus I understood was anything labeled TC3 is OK and then the normal arguments ensued, Yamalube vs. WAL*MART, etc, etc. . . :swear:  :zap:
