What modification did you have to do to the gy6 long axle to make it fit in the zx50? I like the swing arm and would like to do something similar to mine Sorry for the delay, work is picking up and has had me busy this week. All that has to be done is to turn the end of the axle down from 17mm to 15mm. That end slips into a bearing in the gearbox so surface finish is not super critical. You also have to make another notch in the splined area where the gear slips on and move the external snap ring over. Side by side the picture has the splines looking different, but they are the same. Good luck!

I'm thinking lower bars are harder on my back. don't know if that's a primary concern since function is a priority .

I'm thinking lower bars are harder on my back. don't know if that's a primary concern since function is a priority . Yeah I agree. I feel pretty good about where the were in my last pictures. I have not welded them but it is coming soon. With any luck I will be able to spend some time on the build this week. The stuff I ordered from Racing Planet is supposed to be here sometime this week, so hopefully I can at least get the bars and controls squared away soon. I have been working with Fusion360 again, trying to get the fuel tank design down so I can get the metal cut by CNC so it will weld easier. I found a way to save DXF files in fusion360, so the plan was to get the tank designed and then send the files to my daughters Cricut maker, cut it out of poster board for a test fit before actually getting them cut out of metal. However limitations of the Cricut have ruined that idea, it will not cut my files to the proper scale, they always cut smaller than they should so it is worthless. I will have to find some other way to get the files cut from paper so fit can be checked.

I searched all over and the only other machine that seems large enuf to me to do what you need is the newest silhouette cameo 4. it's another $300. .. maybe you can find someone there locally who could tell you if it'll cut the size you need . and maybe you could find someone to do it for a few bucks . I originally thought what you needed was some different software , that's why I thought of linux. sorry for the let down . I looked at fusion 360 and man that's a killer program . the guy I watched was able to fold, unfold and do just about anything with a piece of sheet metal . work with it flat and then fold it into the shape he wanted . now you got me thinkin again of some other program to design a pool cue . sorry I couldn't be of any real help. if you do need anything from linux let me know . tons of great free programs .

Thanks for the footwork I originally looked at the Cameo, but daughter wanted Cricut for its software. Fusion360 is cool but I struggle with it quite a bit. I need to get this crap figured out, soon.

A few things I ordered from the Racing Planet arrived today. I made the order on 2/18 so that was pretty quick for this order. No pictures but I welded the handlebars in place today, the welds came out pretty decent I think. I also finished cleaning and assembling the old stock Kymco master cylinder, the new levers look great. All that is left to do is extend the bars about an 1 1/2" so I will have a place to mount the bar end mirrors and the turn signals. I am trying to make the bar extensions with some copper fittings. If that does not work out I will have to break down and turn them on the lathe from a solid piece of 1 3/8" steel and then bore them out to about 3/4" so the turn signal lights will fit inside of them. Tomorrow I will be going to see the guy that rents Scootopia to me. It just so happens he has a bunch of big machines, mostly for woodworking and a large CNC pin router. I am hoping he will be willing to help me with the gas tank. If he is willing and he does not want to charge me an arm and a leg, I will get him to cut the tank parts out for me. I think he said his pin router will cut up to 1/4" aluminum. I purchased a 4' x 8' sheet of .063" aluminum from a local supplier the other day. It was $80 plus another $10 for him to shear it in half for me. That is much better than what it would cost at some of the other places I checked.

Talked to the guy about helping me get the gas tank parts CNCd, he has agreed to do it for me. I am really glad he can help me out with that part of the project, now I can concentrate on other stuff that needs to be done. He is going to draw the tank side in CAD from my paper templet and cut it out of mdf so I can test fit it. Eventually he will cut it from aluminum along with the other parts I need.
I extended each side of the handlebars about 1 1/2" and did a test fit of all the controls and bar end mirrors. I really like the way it turned out. I have also been working on wiring and placement of the various electrical components.

I actually have a silhouette cameo 4. (well, my wife does). I didn't realize it would cut all kinds of design files (and i also haven't considered trying to use it for anything). Good to know!
