Vento Zip r3i 2005 or 2006
about a month ago my battery started getting drained very quickly so I thought it was time for a new one (I have a lawn and garden battery under the seat). Needless to say it didn't solve the problem.
I changed the regulator/rectifier and then found that I had to switch the wires around, also changed the stator since I had a spare one from another parts bike, still no change.
with the volt meter hooded up I started removing things one at a time to find the power loss and it turns out that the headlight was the culprit. When I removed the headlight the there was no severe drain on the battery and the charging system was putting out 14.5 v.
when I turned on the key without starting it the battery voltage went immedietly from 12.8v to 6 or 7v and then steadily down to 1v, when I turned the key off the voltage went back up to around 12.3v.
Has anyone ever run into this and if so where was the problem in the wiring???
Thanks to anyone who can offer a suggestion.

I was having a similar problem. Battery only lasted about half a day with a full charge. Turns out the battery was bad and I replaced it with an ever start from walmart. Make sure its the right battery the moped asks for. Mine's a 5amp. My symptoms were a dimming headlight at idle, even at high idle. It would also die in the parking lot, off and alarm disarmed. These batteries aren't supposed to last forever and dont have warranties on them for a reason.

I tore the bike apart and tried to find the short with no luck, since I found out that the bike also has running lights which is all I need during the daytime I replaced the burned out ones and unplugged the headlight, if I ever need it all I have to do is reach up and plug it back in, this fixed the problem in a round about way.
