I know more about crab fishing and gold mining than I need to,thanks Discovery Channel,in the UK we have only 2 goldfields and they have been "claimed" many years ago.But my hopes of a local find were cheered when I bumped into this beauty.

We got a goldmine about 5 miles away at Dolaucothi Gold Mines in Pumpsaint. The old silver mines around us a chap would put something down in the water flowing out the old shafts about 20 yr ago and check them every so often see if anything had deposited there. Presumably a container so as water flows over the top it deposits any minerals in it. Don't know if he was lucky or not.

The closest "gold" to me is coal there is still a lot left underground in the seams, but I am hoping my great great grandchildren will find my spoil heap map useful when fossil fuels are really of high value. In the 1970s before they turned the spoil heaps into country parks you could find enough coal in the spoil for a few hours "free" heat.

That's the thing isn't it. What's not of high enough value today to make economic sense. In years to come, might be worth doing. That's what we are seeing with some of the gold fields. It's the stuff the old timers didn't think worth mining. That's profitable now.
