Hi there I recently began a new project, this time wanting a machine that would be at the upper most racing class. Its an stage 6 RT 70cc yamaha aerox engine, with all the parts you could dream of (28mm carb, MHR overrange, Italkit ignition, c21 class exhaust, etc. Well i live in denmark, its winter, hence its around 0 degrees celcius most days, the cold dosent bother me to much, and i want to ride ofc. however i have noticed that the machine dosent really heat up a lot, it gets to about 35 celcius at idle, and drops quickly to 30 cruising, and under load (i have only given it full throttle very shorty at a time), it has only reached 33 celcius. I am wondering if these low temperatures will cause any damage?. i have even tried taping half the radioator fins off, which did very litte to the temps. the cylinder is also only slightly warm to the touch Thanks in advance, and sorry for spelling / grammar mistakes

A thermostat could help. Or you could try putting cardboard on the radiator to cover it.

Are you getting the temperature from the cylinder head? It sounds like you might possibly have an air lock.

But it wouldn't give a true temperature reading at the gauge.

well the water outlet is at the very top of the cylinder head, so i think and airbubble/lock would be very unlikely, and the temp sensor is at a lower point on the cylinderhead than the outlet. And also the cylinder is also only slightly warm to the touch, nowhere near uncomfortably hot Pic from google shows how the outlet looks

I like to see mine run around 100F (~38C) if possible. It will run 35F or so when it's cold... prob lower but I haven't had it out in very cold weather much. I figured I'd just cover radiators till the temp went up enough. If it were up to me, mine would stay at about 120F (~50C) coolant temp all of the time, but I still don't like to see it dip below 100F much. I would try covering the radiator with cardboard till it stayed warm. Clearly airflow cools it since it stays colder riding than sitting still, so that should be able to help. As pewpew said, get a thermostat if that doesn't do it. They are designed for this purpose.

But it wouldn't give a true temperature reading at the gauge. It does. It gives an accurate reading even without coolant.

alrighty, ill ad more tape to the radiator, forgot to mention already around half of the front is coverd by a quick sheet of duct tape, its a gilera runner 125/180cc radiator btw, maybe a little on the big side for the setup
