Pulled clutch to install new contra spring and noticed heat discoloration on shaft, so I examined clutch shaft and noticed the 2 tabs sticking up on the inside. Any ideas or is it just time for a new one? Thanks

Think loops on inside are snap ring. Don’t know about the heat coloration on the shaft?

Those are circlips like said above. It's to hold the bearing in. That shaft does look like it's got very hot. What did the clutch bell look like?

The shaft discoloration could be the result of heat treatment, hardening and tempering operations during manufacture.

The clutch bell looks fine. A little glazing on the inside which I hit with a little sandpaper. My previous carb tune a la YouTube suggested increasing idle till the rear wheel spins but can easily by stopping with your foot. This may have added to heating up the clutch, constantly under tension, especially at full stop. Will retune but I don’t know if this was enough to cause this high heat. I’ll be keeping an eye on the clutch for awhile and try to source a stick on temp gage for the cvt cover. By the way, this scooter has a big bore kit installed. If an upgraded clutch is recommended, what would be good for this application that’s not too crazy price wise. Thanks

CVT's can get extremely hot to the touch (300 degrees F. or so) and don't have as much cooling as they should. I agree with FrankenMech, the discoloration is probably due to heat treating. You could put in stiffer clutch springs. I put in 1k clutch springs, they seem to be a little stiffer than stock, but still very drive-able. This will help to keep the clutch bell from glazing and cut down on heat from unnecessary friction when stopped by allowing a slightly higher idle without contact between the clutch pads and bell when you're not moving.

If the clutch bell is fine. I would think it's fine then. Clutch bells can go blue/purple colour when really hot.

polini malossi makes good clutches you may not need them yet . If it is just a 70 cc that is not a race cylinder ,stiffer clutch springs is all you need
