Just pulled out the old scooter and was messing with it. Stripped it down to the frame. I've known for a while that it has a blown CDI... Just wondering if there is anyone you can run these scooters without any electronics... IE running the spark plug off the stator?

I doubt it. Maybe if you could convert to a different style of ignition, but I think it would be cheaper and easier by far to just replace the CDI.

I have about 3 or 4 CDI's, one of which came directly off of an RX8, if you really need one that bad.

So I'm guessing any CDI will do, off of any scooter, as long as the engine is 1E40QMB?
Reign, name a price.

I think the difference is that my Beamer is Tiawanese and most 1E's are china or Yamaha My engine numbers by the cvt cover dont have 1E40QMB in em, just a bunch of numbers

My old CPI Case had a bunch of jibberish numbers on it. The 03 CPI Case says 40QMB on it.

Wait so I'm not dealing with a CDI. The thing that popped a capacitor was behind the headlight. A black box about the size of a deck of playing cards, maybe a little bigger.

On a RX8, that would be the alarm system I cant see how that wouldve blown anything, other than your battery fuse. The CDI sits just under the seat, off to the rear right side (when you're sitting on it)

..... Click-able thumbnails. The front plastic cover is missing off the box. It was nearly destroyed by the exploding capacitor.

Those things can play hell with the ignition/starting if they fail. Look here: www.bjspricebuster.com/images/alarrm_0033_brj5.jpg

The thumbnails arent showing up for me, but from jmstar's comment, and my knowledge of RX8's, the only thing on the front end of one, thats a black box and about the size of a deck of cards, is the alarm. If you want to completely remove the alarm, just snip the wires (keep the plug!) and connect these 2 wires to make your ignition work again:
