Hello I'm Ben, I'm from Michigan the Lapeer area. Last year in September I got an 11 year old Sunny JL50QT-6A (Jinlun JM Star Sunny 50 scooter,) GY6, 139QMB 4-stroke engine, engine is 50cc bored out to 70cc so still legal under the 50cc laws, max MPH is roughly 45, gotten 60 on steep hill down. Its the old style modeled after the Honda Shadow/Joker. Manufactured by the Cixi Kingring motorcycle company according to Vin search. It only cost me $400. Runs great, and great gas mileage as far as I can tell. It has a slight hack, last owner installed a power switch because the ignition doesn't function properly, still requires the key to be turned partially. Only issue is the gas gauge isn't working and I'm not too keen on changing the module myself. Pic at the bottom of page at this page modernvespa.com/forum/topic44933

Welcome to the forum, scooter electrics can be baffling I would fix the ignition switch before trying to sort the gas gauge out.

Have you checked for any loose wire or broken connections. Is it possible that previous owner disabled gauge to bridge connection to start button? Just curious. Came across a bunch of weird half added electrical work on last scooter I bought. I just removed the weird stuff and replaced with stock parts.
I would also check the sending unit at tank to make sure it isn't unplugged, frayed or snipped -same with the connection from harness
So for the ignition, that shouldn't be terribly difficult to wire up a new one. They are often sold as combo's with ignition, new keys, gas cap, and lid lock. Usually very cheap.

Hi thanks for the replies, I'm not too mechanically confident, plus it's impossible to find the manual for this version of the Sunny JL50QT-6A so I'm unclear on specifics. The engine, trans and everything mechanical is easily researched.
I saved an eBay list of parts if I need them, currently I'm fixated on the oil change. Im currently looking for a bike lift cuz it's not easy for me to get down low and back up, until then I might attempt using my large floor jack.
If anyone happens to know of anyone that has the same bike I'd like to see if I can get a copy of their manual.
