Wondering about engine swaps vs buying and installing a liquid cooled head. What are all of the components to a liquid cooled system?

You can replace the cooling fan and air shroud with a crank driven water pump or you can use an electric pump. The cylinder/head have water jackets around them that allow water to pass through them and cool the engine. Some engines use an o-ring style head gasket then a separate gasket to seal the coolant in. You would also need a radiator and brackets to mount it somewhere that it can get plenty of airflow. Most likely you'll end up modifying a body panel or leaving a trim piece out to get enough air to the radiator. You also need hoses and clamps to connect the water pump, radiator, and cylinder and probably an overflow bottle.

I see no mention of a thermostat. What tells the electric water pump to run or not run?

I dunno but I don't think that all of the WC machines use thermostats. Some of the water pumps look like they could have a thermostat housing on the tip, some don't. I just figured with the heat these things generate they would be in "open loop" for the temps most folks ride in. If the pump is electric it's easy enough to set up and in line sensor to turn the pump on and off. Maybe Robert can give us some input since he's the proud owner of a WC machine?

The thermostat is in the head on most if not all that i know of. They run w/out thermos to. Some will run an electric pump off a switch w/out a thermostat. You could use a thermo control too...You guyd got it covered ;D
