I worked on an '03 Zuma with 6000 miles on it today. It had sat for at least 6 months to a year so I had to do all the usual stuff to it. Flush tank, clean carb, de-grease and detail etc... After I did the fuel system I sucked on the vacuum line to fill the carb and just for kicks I tried starting it with my hand using the kick start and it fired on the first try. Ran perfect! I didn't even have to play with the mixture screw. After running the cob webs out for a few minutes on the bench it ran down the road better than my scooter when I rode it. The plastics fit together better, the fasteners are better, the wires and hoses are all routed nicely. The whole thing just feels better. It's the first Zuma I ever went through and rode after and I must say that I like it!

I worked on one that I took a test ride on. I liked the quality, but it felt tiny for me. I think it was the way the floorboard is setup, but it's been a while. My Venus is smaller than the Zuma and it doesn't bother me at all. I'm 6ft2or3in tall and usually around 275lbs, so I am a tough customer to be fair.

Yeah I'm 6' even and it's a little tight as far as that goes but I was commenting on the general performance and "feel" of it. the steering felt a bit weird but I think it's the worn tires. the back is bald and the front is getting there. I pulled off the front caliper to check the pads and as usual the damn pads kept falling out of their guide grooves when refitting the caliper to the shock. I've done pads on many Zumas and they are always a bitch. I guess there's a secret that I'm ignorant of to date. the rotor was grooved so I'm sure the pads were replaced before. Anyway, the thing is friggin' awesome for a 49cc. It cruises 40 on flat no sweat and the engine feels smooth as silk. I wish I could afford to buy one today because I'd buy one tomorrow and put a BBK on it.

The one I spoke of was actually with me mostly because the owner tried to do the brake pads and couldn't get them in right. I didn't have any trouble with them, but I can't really remember the details. I don't remember the power being much different than my other 2Ts. The gearing was nice for takeoff. Before then, I had only really rode Tritons with long gearing. When I did a big bore on an Eton beamer that has a deeper ratio I was impressed by it too. Didn't expect to do a wheelie wit a basic big bore install and CVT tune up. I had always heard everyone doing wheelies with sport kits, but even my 99cc wouldn't. "Oh, so THAT'S how they do it!?!"

Lol, good lil scoots.. I bet you ran into a good running mina with short 14 something gears.?.
Brent you are definitely correct on the gear ratio,s and wheelies. Skeedr wheelied with ease with a mere sport set-up and 13:55 gears. But topped out at around 60MPH screaming! I recently put a more stout set-up on a customers scooter (Triton) with taller (probably 11,s?) gears and it didnt want to wheelie but would fly on the top-end.

Yeah the size is a bit small annd the mirrors cant see past my shoulders till i got some risers and diffrent mirros as for the being 6'1 and 200 + i just sit on the rear part of the hump
i do have an idea for highway pegs/crah bars that maybe ill play with this winter i didt like the ways i could mount the other ones i was working with once i put the radaitor in mine
but now yamaha had to cave to the smog nazis and the zuma 50 is no longer a fun little 2 stroke its now a p.c. Commuter bike
