Greetings guys.
Since I reinstalled my air filter box the scoot has been running pretty quiet (as I was hoping) and I did some tuning/cleaning to the carb and everything was kinda okay. I was, however not getting the speeds I was getting before. At WOT I was barely getting more than 60km/h. I figured I needed a plug change so I went ahead and did that. Not much difference at all. Anyway, the other morning, on my way to work) I noticed that I managed to hit 80km/h with about 3/4 throttle but would slowly drop to less than that when wide open. Fuel issues, I thought, running rich during wide open, perhaps? Needle needs adjusting? Today I got the time so I took the snorkel off for starters. It's a bit louder now, but she ran to 50km/h up my hill. With the snorkel she runs to about 35 or 40. So I went ahead and adjusted the needle one notch down (more fuel) just to ensure I'm not running too lean now at WOT. Thus far I'm not getting any bogging under any load or throttle position. It's gonna be a while before I get to test her under a real-world variable throttle situation like I usually do when I run errands, but I'll keep you guys posted.

Wonder if anything was partially plugged in the carb pre-cleaining? Seems odd to just be rich all of the sudden. Keep an eye out for anything fishy, and check the plug at some point.

Prior to putting the air cleaner box back on I had a cone filter and I had made a lot of adjustments to the needle trying to get it to run correctly (which it never did with that alone). I ended up putting a restiction in the filter (cut piece of plastic with a hole just big enough to allow thhe right amount of air to pass) that worked fairly well. I had flat spots in the rev range so I knew it was only a matter of time before I had to get rid of it. And I did. So I am pretty sure that the rich running is a remnant of that, since I only adjusted the idle mixture/speed after I cleaned the carb etc. But I'll keep you up to date.

Okay, I made my first run from home to work this morning. She started up on one push of the starter button (great sign) after sitting for a few days. I headed out and the acceleration and top speed were all strong and consistent. I was hitting 80km/h in no time. Traffic was a bit tight this morning and all lights seemed to catch me so I didn't do a top speed run. I was having quite a bit of fun catching up to a Yamaha R6 at the lights though (distant cousins, perhaps). Anyway, I think I finally figured out why I can be running without a snorkel and not have to upjet. My auto mixture isn't working. That means I'm constantly running around with more fuel than I should. Does that makes sense? I'm thinking that the extra fuel brought on by the broken auto mixture is actually working to my benefit. Whatever the case, I'm running pretty strong! I'm pleased.

Makes sense to me! Ive been there. Used to run Skeedr around like that back when it was still a daily driver. I unplugged mine to get more fuel and run w/o the snorkle

Okay....here's the deal. I took her out to work again this morning and let her stretch her legs a bit. Then, after work I headed out to a highway and let her rip. I tucked down with the brim of my helmet almost touching the dashboard and my knees and feet all the way inboard. In one direction I got up to about 85km/h and in the other direction I hit 90km/h. So I'm averaging 87km/h or so. Not a single hiccup, not a single burp. Excellent stuff, I would say.
