I’m the proud owner of a ‘07 Mercedes Benz GL320. I love the vehicle. It has a soul. This was lacking in the Honda Odyssey it replaced. Butttttttt, however, In this case……
It’s a needy Beotch. It requires premium ash free oil, aromatic suspension has shit the bed again, there is a weird turbo thing where it chokes on boost but only when you need to cross three lanes of oncoming traffic. Oh and the A/C had quit. Midnight blue with black interior and 100°F doesn’t work.
To replace it with a new one is horribly expensive. Honestly for $5k I could get everything wrong made right and have a smashing car. I’ll limp it along at least until I can LS swap it and add 44” Super Swamper Boggers to Dana 80 solid axles.

Nice Ride, looks good. I face a very similar dilemma with my 05 Tahoe. Over the last few years it has had so much work done it hurts to think about it. Last week I had an engineered suspension kit installed to retrofit the troublesome and expensive air ride system. They also replaced the steering gearbox and hoses due to leaks. It rides just a tad stiff now, but great compared to the horrifical bucking bronco ride it had with the broken air ride.
I am currently shopping to replace the 5.3 LS (LM7) engine. A lifter collapses on occasion and sounds tappety, and the shop said it has every oil leak a high mileage LS can get. My normal shop says it should come in under 6K for them to put a Long block in. I am open to suggestions!

When compared to the cost of a new Tahoe it may be worth taking a Home Equity loan out at ridiculously low interest for five years and dump money into it. It’s a tough choice. On the Tahoe frame rot is a concern as is aging electronic equipment. My girlfriend has a Z71 ‘05 Tahoe with rear air etc. Check engine light is permanent for an evap leak. I’ve replaced some blower speed control and blend door motors. It has a bearing growl in the front end somewhere. I’ve even done the unit bearing in the drivers side. She paid $6k two years ago. It has 170k miles. We’ll keep it going as long as possible. It drives nice. I do like it. It’s not my Benz though. When the Benz (diesel) is on a good road trip it’ll average 28-30mpg running 70mph. Full time four wheel drive and weighs in at 5,250. I got the Benz five years ago I think. Paid $18,500 for it with 107,000 on the ticker. I can work on it except for the damn electronics and it’s LOADED with sensors and tattletale crap. Drives me crazy and it’s a short trip.

Picture is from 2015, when I got it. It is about the same now but with much more patina, miles and countless $$$ spent on it.
We had a white 03 creampuff before we got this one, but the wife plowed into a "parked" fire truck and totaled it.

The ML was the worse performing car in the U.K. For electric faults for a number of years when released. It was a standing joke in the motoring industry that the model they replaced it with, had even more electrical kit to go wrong. One of the motoring shows, even said they couldn't sort the last model out. Now it's even more likely to break down.
