I have a stock 2000 zuma with a Malossi overrange kit that includes a variator with 11g weights, a yellow contra spring, and stock clutch, and oversized rear pulley. When I pulled the rear pulley off I saw grooves in the contra spring seat. Does anyone know what would cause this?

looking forward to your build thread. This weekend may be when I put my overhang over range kit on an ET2 with a mild build.

Welcome to the forum. I guess you need to look at the spring, and assemble the clutch again. You should be able to see where it's rubbing. I'm guessing it wasn't fitted centrally.

That’s odd. I have the overrange. I removed my red spring and am about to put in yellow. I’m guessing my rollers will be between 4.5 and 5.5g.
The contra spring is tight over the torque driver cover, but I can’t think of anything in the way it’s supposed to operate that could cause it to wear into the cover. Check to see if the o-rings under it are worn. I just can’t think of what would cause that.
What does the spring look loke? Where is it worn?
I see the clutch and spring in the background. Is the spring stuck to the clutch somehow? Has the clutch nut ever fallen off?

The OR pulley requires a little larger ID contra spring or they will be harder to fit and can bind. If you have to use effort to sit a contra spring on the rear pulley, it's too tight. Still, I wouldn't think even squeezing a spring over would wear into the cover... but it wouldn't surprise me either with all of the vibration and twisting.

Thanks everyone, yes the spring was stuck to the inside of the clutch, which I think is what caused the grooves, it was kinda rusted in there but an easy twist freed it. I flipped it around and it fits perfect over the spring guide now. Also, no the threads aren't stripped or buggered up, it's just an illusion from the pic. I bought the scoot with the Malossi OR kit installed.

The only time I’ve had rubbing like that when using the proper spring is when I didn’t use a bushing on the clutch side to center things up.
