i have heard about it before but why would you do this on 160mph bike its a gearbox out job to replace as well

My guess would be that they simply lost the nut OR they didnt want that sprocket coming off any-time soon. Not to bright never the less.

Good news is there seems to be plenty of life left on that sprocket.
