Project Elite E (old flame)

When I first got into moped back in high school I always loved the honda SB50 Elite E. The shape, size and lightness of the bike appealed to me. I had the chance to buy one from a friend, which I rebuilt from the frame up but sadly sold after about 1 year because I needed a truck...Flash forward 10years I got a chance to buy a frame  that was sitting in my friends shed. Here is how it currently looks after alot of work. I am essentially rebuilding my old 89 but with new knowledge Ive gained and parts I couldn't afford back in highschool. 


Sadly I didn't take pics of the condition it was in prior to me working on it. But there is still alot more work that needs to be done.
Mocking up motor and rear shock mount






Converted front end to disk and temporary wheels mounted.




Mounted the panels the bike came with. And the same JDM bubble tail lights I had on my first 89. I have another set of panels on the side once Im done building the bike



Jdm headset, these are harder to find now a days than 10 years ago along with the bubble tails.



Mocked up my airbox on the bike... Not sure if ill use it on this build






Got the wiring and front brake sorted out. Still deciding on what wheels to run on this build. She is currently running so I can start tuning. It feels so good to be riding an 89 again, like reacquainting with an old flame. Alot more to come.... And she is a KEEPER!

Nice, I'm building a similar bike right now! I've been trying to find one of those bubble JDM tails like you have for a little while.

Ya they are pretty hard to find now days. But when I built my first 1 they were pretty common... There are some guys in hawaii that still post them for sale here and there.

BTW your bike is clean i wish I started with a cleaner base like yours. If I find another set Ill DM u they are pretty spendy tho. Last 1 my friend bought was $200 ive seen them posted for $200-$250...

Spray painted the front panel white to match the headset and painted the seat bucket black. Im almost tempted to just leave the bike like this instead of using my nice panels, it alot easier to work on the motor without the rear panels. Lol

Picked up a used JDM seat. Put the beat up rear panels on to get my reg. And safety check. I forgot how much or a pain working on the bike is with the panels on... Also had to cut the side to clear the air box. I really dont want to cut my other set of panels so I missed around on these. Might have to compromise since Im not raising this bike.







Also put a 5 spoke wheel on the front to see how I like these over the solids.

Took the 89 on a ride with 2 friends, they both have mopeds bit took their supermotos. Went from wailuku to Hana and back to wailuku. In the way back we stopped at Ho'okipa to watch the waves. On the way to hana there are some nice open roads before it gets really twisty and narrow. Glad my bike had no break downs other than running out if gas and changing my plug because tourist driving so slow. Now I cab say my bike survived the road to Hana lol

Was actually not bad better to just worry about 1 bike possibly breaking down or running out of gas than 3... Its like 40-50miles between gas stations

Noice , never been to Maui seeks like your trip was equivalent to going around all of Oahu , but atleast there's plenty places for gas and if ur lucky only half of road is potholes I can only imagine the roads must be.
I remember big island and this one part were sign Said 4 wheel drive only...
well my step dad was a gear head thru and thru he didn't let the fact we was in a small rental stop him, the sand eventually got him to turn around before he needed to be towed out and on the way out the incline was steepest I think ever seen in my life he told me and my bro to get out for less weight and gunned it I remember being there for a min didn't think he would make it even with a manual transmission the engine BARELY inched by for the steepest section.
the look on the locals faces when he made it back out with his dodge dart I think it was, trucks that came put just after him had least 4 inch lift and probably 28 - 32" tires was minimum of every other truck, he just smiled and said ah its front wheel drive so no problem....

aeroxbud i am sure everyone on this forum would enjoy riding in Hawaii.  whether it be Oahu, Maui, the big island, im sure even Kauai would be nice.  we can ride from the mountain to the ocean in a matter of minutes.  we got coastal roads where the ocean is dark deep blue.  you got guys like Sum-azn-kid on Maui that can drive above the clouds on Haleakala.  you can go from hot arid areas to rain forest in a matter of minutes.  you can go from full sun, ride trough a tunnel through the mountain, come out the other side in torrential rain.  you can go from torrential rain in one district/valley and the next district/valley over is sunny as hell.  this is the land of rainbows.  not da kine rainbow flag rainbows, but we get that kine too.  like bad ass double rainbows in the sky.  zen style:  they are here for a magnificent moment, and then it's gone.

if i ruled the world, All of Us on this forum would do a ride on each of the major islands of Hawaii together as the 49ccscoot krew.  and then we would have a big party/luau and the end of the day.
